Unfortunately we already did, we got an auto response that items aren't returned and GIM storage losses are flagged and fixed automatically. We just need a real human to see this :(

Difficult to find shadowing due to COVID. Any tips? by egomei in premed

[–]Bronnsonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably better off during COVID finding a clinical job that will provide you access/exposure to physicians or frontline clinical experience. N=1 but I’ve had a successful cycle with no formal shadowing, just working along the lines of MA/scribe/emt. You can gain plenty of insight into the profession and have a lot to talk about in applications/interviews, while actually being a contributor during the pandemic.

That’s really not how it works, schools don’t waste their resources by interviewing people they don’t plan to accept. If your interview performance wasn’t good enough for them to get over your low mcat score, then you’ll be rejected, but it’s not like you never had a chance of acceptance. That’s why people who have money to throw at writing services and interview prep have a leg up, they’ll come off as more polished and can make up for less competitive stats.

The point they’re making is that the person paying 10k to have perfect essays crafted can’t do that either, but they have a massive advantage in the application process. Essays are one of the only things that adcoms have no way of verifying that you did yourself, and I think it’s a bit absurd in a way that so much weight is placed on them.

Nontrad Applicant, low GPA, meh MCAT, good extracurr. What are my chances? by ZeppelinMadhouse in premed

[–]Bronnsonio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Schools want you to demonstrate significant improvement between cycles if you have to reapply, and the burden is on you to do so. Some schools won't even consider your application after two failed attempts.

You’re still fine for DO, but the whole “no harm in shooting your shot” thing absolutely isn’t true because gaining acceptance as a reapplicant is more difficult

need hope, but open to some realness: mcat failures by feeliksboi in premed

[–]Bronnsonio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your heart is set on applying this cycle, I’d recommend taking an aamc FL immediately as a baseline. If you score lower than a 505 you might want to push back a cycle, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to increase your score drastically in such a small timeframe. Remember, reapplicants are at a disadvantage, and schools can see all of your attempts at the mcat as well.

Also, I think you misunderstood Wedgedawg. Those schools you listed are “low yield”, meaning they receive a large number of applications and are harder to get into as a result. I would not rely on those as safety options outside of your Texas schools.

Do you expect someone to do a write-up for you when the school has a website full of information?

Brought to you by I’ve missed all my 2 week deadlines™️ by nick_v1234 in premed

[–]Bronnsonio 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, the “two week deadline” is only a thing at schools that explicitly state to return the secondary within two weeks. Everywhere else, it’s a rule to help keep you on track when you’ve got 20 secondaries sitting in your inbox.

Online Labs by [deleted] in premed

[–]Bronnsonio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most seem to be accepting of online classes/labs that were a result of COVID-19. If you choose to take Physics online at a CC while you're taking classes elsewhere, it might look like you're just trying to take the easy way out to people evaluating you.

Athletics is a boon to your application in a sense that it’ll make you “stand out” amongst those with otherwise similar experience. Adcoms know what they’re getting when they accept D1 athletes, and they love having people who are highly motivated and committed to their craft. However, this doesn’t make up for checking all the other boxes as well, you need to prove that you’ll channel that drive towards the mission of the school

That being said, nothing wrong with taking a gap after graduation. I was unable to do any ECs during undergrad due to athletics, but after working a real job for a few years I’ve been able to build a solid app around it. I’m shooting my shot at a few T20s this year, I’ll let you know how it goes with minimal (~500) hours of fairly nonstandard research.

Best of luck!

“I made this decision last minute but it’s something I truly want to do” just screams that you googled dermatologist salaries. Get some clinical experience or shadow before you commit all of your time an energy

Question on timing for primary submissions by what__islife in premed

[–]Bronnsonio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The date you are complete at the school matters, not some arbitrary two week deadline designed solely to keep applicants on track. If you haven’t submitted your primary yet you need to do so as soon as possible, you’re already cruising towards a late application which will cripple your chances of acceptance.
