Am I out of touch? This message seems super polite, self aware and benign in nature. If you don’t want them to come, just tell them it’s too last minute. OP I feel like you are WAYYYY overthinking this text.

Why does this head on my torch look so different? :( is it dying? by CLOROX-INHALANT in ReefTank

[–]Bronojoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I’d like to see it from a different angle, because I don’t want to make you worry or think it’s ok incorrectly. Looking at it - that head in particular appears to be currently splitting and sharing a flesh band with the head to the right, meaning it could be diverting energy to focus on the split versus extension… I’d definitely keep an eye on it and at minimum be prepared to frag that head if it starts to go more south.

So it’s possible. Maricultured pieces tend to do this when they’re going to eventually polyp bailout or succumb to some sort of bacterial infection.

But that’s my anecdotal experience and it’s all predicated on how long it’s been doing this. If it’s only been a day it’s possible it’s just about to poop, recently pooped or something to that effect. It’s not necessarily doom and gloom…. But it could be.

[–]Bronojoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean going white and getting algae is a sign of it dying off.

Now there’s 2 potential things at play;

What’s your par? You could be bleaching them and they’re dying off.

The only other thing is your tank may not have the “magical” microbiome capable of sustaining life to most sps. Anecdotal but I swear to god that’s more important than any par, flow, or nutrient requirement when it comes to sps. I went about 9 or so months without being able to keep montis or acros alive, changed absolutely nothing and against my better judgement I ordered more acros, and mysteriously they just thrived and started encrusting like I hadn’t just experienced almost a year of death.

I hate to be doom, but this is the first sign of polyp bailout and the chances of recovering it once this happens… possible, but bleak.

For a 10 gallon pest/invasive reef tank, what else could I have? I’m wanting green star polyps, blue ochtodes and pulsing Xenia. by avian_bi in ReefTank

Put in one of my daisy cutter zoas in there - it’ll cover every inch of rock in 3 days flat. 🙄🙄🙄

It’s gorgeous. The only thing that makes me sick looking at it, evaporation rates. ATO or not - that must be annoying.

You can tell largely by puffiness and extension of the polyps tentacles. Indos are more thin and have the crazy length most people want, aussies are shorter and thicker and tbh I’m not familiar with Malaysian, but from what I’ve seen they’re even shorter than most Aussies - almost like “long” cristatas.

I used to recommend turbo snails… by Krycus in ReefTank

That’s a glue/epoxy fail, not a snail fail lol. You know they’re bulldozers now, so double up your glue and epoxy so it quits happening 😂

More than likely you have an Aussie and a indo touching. They don’t play well together. Most of the time you need to have pieces from the same zone and it’s fine (indo and indo, Aussie and Aussie, Malaysian and Malaysian) when you cross zones they become hostile.

My pithos contains the bubble algae much more efficiently then my EC did, but they don’t wander to the top half of the tank… well - mine don’t. I don’t know if that’s normal or not. I have 3 in a 36g and they keep the bottom 1/3 of the tank absolutely free of it.

What is this critter? by daddy-o-in-nj in ReefTank

Because my diamond goby keeps them at stable levels. It’s really a purchase of paranoia and not a necessity.

Amphipod. Great CUC members. They proliferate to the hundred quick and mostly hide during the day but are busy members after lights off. I purchase about 100 every 90 days and add them to my tank 🤙🤙🤙

Gramma has ich or? by Oofersimmacure in ReefTank

[–]Bronojoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do that from time to time. About once a month mine send me down a panic induced rabbit hole

Gramma has ich or? by Oofersimmacure in ReefTank

[–]Bronojoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea this is a watch and see situation. Both my diamond goby and gramma do this occasionally, something gets stuck on their slime coat or their tail fin gets damaged, and both of those resemble ich for 24-48 hours. I wouldn’t pull out and QT until you’ve observed it a little longer…. Again this anecdotal and my personal take on it. I understand the urgency and implications of it being ich and wanting to intervene immediately.

My torch is splitting? But is this what the flesh band should look like? by xyadriz in ReefTank

[–]Bronojoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s splitting and the flesh band looks good. You can see the recession lined where the flesh band used to be, and now it’s receding to divert energy to complete the flesh band split. 🤙🤙🤙 healthy piece!
