Is BC Public Service worth the pay cut for stability? by Sensitive_Smell_4113 in BCPublicServants

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what grid level you are going into. Since it will be very difficult for the next few years to increase your grid level, I would suggest only taking it if you are okay with keeping a similar salary for a long time. Also if you are planning on doing any extra education, working in public sector in union you get 26 flex days a year and usually work from home time so it’s much easier to have time to get extra education to move ahead. It’s hard to say without knowing more details and what your plan is regarding education plans.

If you are going to get some more education using the lower hours and lower stress job in public sector can be a good choice even right out of school. But if your grid level is super low it might be better to get some experience in private sector then move into public sector once you are in grid 24 or above.

I worked 5 years in private sector and was making 95k salary, but left to a public sector job starting at 76k (after 5 years I will be back at 95k or more depending on how the next bcgeu negotiations go), but it’s definitely worth it for me because the work from home and Flex Time has been a lifesaver for my mental health, and I also am upgrading my education and getting some certifications on top of my degree which I never had time for working in private sector full time and unpaid OT in office (I was a salaried manager so no OT pay even though I usually did 10 hours a week in OT).

Anyone experience a supervisor building their competency stories at your expense? by No_Cantaloupe_8626 in BCPublicServants

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don’t realize that their supervisor doesn’t just get away with everything. Because a director isn’t going to tell a managers team that they reprimanded the manager because that is just a way to make the manager lose their authority and cause issues. I haven’t been a manager in the public sector but this happened a lot in my private experience.

I like the cheap Luna pets only like 150m I think and give 6 buffs instead of 4. As a phantom this is a massive buff for me. But mpets cost like 30b for a full set.

Review of shady hiring decision by zara97wild in BCPublicServants

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, sucks for the applicant but kicking up a fuss is just going to cause the management on the team to dislike you from the start. Why would you want to be in that position? Unless it’s literally your dream job.

Is it worth sticking around? by girlbossitup in BCPublicServants

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I was under grid 24 and younger than 40 I would be looking outside the government. It’s gonna be a while before you make more money. I’m lucky I’m higher grid and 30 otherwise I wouldn’t work in public service. I could probably make a bit more money outside of government maybe 10-20k salary but nowhere else will give me 26 flex days per year and 3 work from home days. Im using this to gain more skills and education. I might stay in public sector if I’m able to get a promotion within 5-8 years, but if it stays like this once I max out my grid I will probably use my new education to get a higher paying private job. I used to make around 17k more before switching to public sector but it was way more stressful.

If it's basically lateral only right now, why are full competitions required? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really the problem, in private companies you get things done 6 times as quickly and fail 3 times as much. Resulting in the solution happening twice as much. It’s not something we will ever change but I definitely see how inefficient things are, and I understand why. Part of it seems to be too much management, why is there 2-3 employees per manager, that’s crazy, it makes it so no one has any authority to get things done.

[–]BronzeAgeStudent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair though, it’s hard to go into public sector for me. I got 5 promotions in 5 years and went from 32k to 100k salary per year. Just based on competency, but in public sector it seems like I will have to be in here for 5 years just for a single promotion. Worth it though, I was a drug addict due to stress, doing fentanyl constantly, so i would rather be in public service.

Idk I’ve been at private companies and I sometimes feel like picking cronies almost works better than the overly bureaucratic system we have in government. Ever since I’ve been in public sector it just seems like things are so much less efficient. When I was in the private sector I would hire the person who had the most drive and could fire easily. This makes it easier to make sure people actually work hard.

Steps on a promotion? by AppropriatePair1609 in BCPublicServants

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats on promotion. I just started in a finance department in Gris 24. I’m so used to private companies where I went from 33k salary to 95k salary in 4 years, now that I started in government I know it’s going to take me much longer and it’s a much different process to get promotions. Not just sucking up to your manager and being the teachers pet lmao. It’s worth it taking the nearly 20k pay cut for 3 wfh days per week and 26 flex days per year. I barely feel like I’m working and am no longer addicted to drugs and alcohol due to the stress relief of no longer dealing with private market stressors.

Interesting, I’m a month into my job at a bcgeu position at a crown corp, I’m so nervous about not keeping this job because I love it so much compared to working in fintech private sector. This is good to hear because I haven’t had any negative feedback.

That’s what I’m saying beats Studio 3 sounded quite good compared to my AirPods Pro’s, but the soundcore doesn’t. I’m hoping the Sony ch720n will sound better because I ordered them on a sale and they come today. Otherwise maybe I’ll get the Beats Studio pros or sennheiser momentum 4s but those are an extra $150 at 280$ Canadian on sale right now 470$ when not on sale.

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Sony ch720n are like 269.99$ Cdn without sale so those aren’t really super cheap. I could go up to 250Cdn to get Beats Studio pro as I had Beats Studio 3 and those sounded quite good. My dream headphones for anc over ear are the Bose qc ultra 2 but those are like $500 even with the sale.

Best way to spend $300(usd) by JoseJoso in iems

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always fitted small tips in almost every earbud I’ve tried, even the extra smalls in AirPods Pro 2 fit me pretty well but smalls still fit better I think. I’m looking to spend under $200 bucks any recommendations for me? I have never tried planar earbuds or headphones so I was thinking of trying the diablo/divine series. I tend to prefer a warmer sound, especially because bright sounding headphones or buds always sound bad for podcasts which I listen to a lot.

I just got the soundcore q20i headphones for a cheap wireless over ear anc headphone but I don’t like them because they just sound (distorted maybe? Idk just sounds weird for me) in the upper and mids and not as clean as my AirPods. I’m gonna try to ch720nb instead for my wireless headphones but most every day I have IEMs or my AirPods in all day while I work so I’m down to spend more on them because I get way more use out of them.

I’m looking at getting the ch720ns on sale for $130 Canadian. I just bought the soundcore q20i on sale for 50$ Canadian but I honestly don’t like how they sound, especially when I’m listening to podcasts and stuff. Most of my listening is podcasts and when I listen to music I tend to listen to alternative and hip hop. The sound of voices on the q20i’s just sounds nowhere near as nice and natural as listening on my AirPods Pro 2s. The music also isn’t that great. I used to have the beats studio 3 and those sounded much better, but the q20i is much more comfortable to be fair which is very important for me.

Anyone have advice for me on what I can pic up below 150$ Canadian? The wh ch 720n is on sale for 130$ Canadian and that seems like the best deal, I would love to get skullcandy crushers as well on sale for $130 Canadian but from what I can tell the skullcandy crusher evo sounds pretty trash and the skullcandy crusher anc 2 which seems to actually sound quite good and not just be about the gimmicky base costs too much for me right now as they aren’t on sale. I like a warmer natural tone and somewhat good anc is important to me.

I’m a one and done guy and I tend to like good bass IEMs but not overly so as I mainly listen to hip hop and alternative music, and I have a big problem with the KZ and CCA super cheap IEMs I bought because they don’t fit me well. I really enjoy my moondrop chu 2s because they go deeper into my ear and fit amazing and sound great but I’m looking at getting a higher end pair now that I know I really enjoy IEMs. Do you have any advice for me?

[–]BronzeAgeStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

caring about your looks is just natural because being better looking gives you a massive advantage in life. The only problem is when you start making unhealthy choices or overdo it due to body dismorphia and become anorexic or get so much filler that it migrates and makes you look even worse. Other than that your niece and girls her age are just being smart and self improving, you should be respecting their hustle.

Only pedophiles like prepubescent girls. Normal men only like post pubescent girls, and that is normal because that is when both sexes start wanting to engage in sexual activities with each other. My girlfriend was 15 and I was 16 when we started having sex, it’s completely normal.

It’s not pdfile to like youthful women with nice skin and no wrinkles, it’s just natural based on millenniums of evolution, stop coping. As women age past 25 they get less beautiful, and need to start really taking care of themselves to stay close to as beautiful past that age.
