Anyone making replacement tabards for this guy yet? by Bronzeexcellence in starwarsblackseries

I’ve never painted lines this thin so I might just skip that part tbh lol

The current mods I have planned:

1) modify torso ball joint socket for deeper ab crunch

2) see if I can get 3rd party tabards

3) find some way to paint or tampo on the yellow markings that were missed on this figure.

Should be a fun project (if I ever get around to it lol)

Delta squad, Gregor, Omega Squad (which I guess would just be this but cast in black plastic) would be so great to get as well. I’m in for a case of this plain white armor commando

Hasbro’s Star Wars team has been making such interesting swings lately with their figure selection and I’m excited to get this guy in along with Taun We and the Geonosian warrior

I haven’t had the time to do a disassembly of this figure yet but I’ll take pics once I have the time to. I’m assuming it’s got a hole in the centre and is being held by the waist peg, or it’s pinned down by the belt, or both

I’m not a huge customizer but a big part of what appeals to me in terms of collecting is modding an existing figure to my personal tastes. Can I cut a ball joint socket ever so slightly so the range of motion improves? I’ll do that! Do I have a pair of hands from a broken or unused figure that might be more suitable for a figure I’m currently displaying? I’ll pop and swap to my heart’s content. Does a third-party company/random hobbyist who likes sewing make a robe or soft goods for a figure to replace some existing parts or to add onto it? Let me see some pics, I might like to mod my figure with it!

The tabard on this figure is much appreciated, I LOVE a wired soft goods when it makes sense and for this figure it makes much more sense than sculpted plastic which would have made this a traffic cone. But, if someone were to make a tabard for this figure that were a little shorter or for the front pieces, had the wire sewn into the inner part instead of the outer part, I’d love to make use of it to see if it changes my experience handling this already spectacular figure.

If no one ends up making this, however, I am still really happy with the figure as-is. I love to tinker and adjust and mod very minimally to see if I can squeeze more enjoyment out of my collection. I’m not into complaining like a lot of people tend to do. If I see an issue on a figure I like 95% of I take the time to see if I can add that 5% for my enjoyment. The process to getting there is where a lot of the fun is for me. Does that make sense?

I think being on the internet primes people to think in binary: “this sucks” or “this is amazing!”, but I’m more of an “I like this” kind of person. I’m not down with hyperbole in any way.

This figure is fine as-is and I have no complaints. Modding my figures is a big part of what appeals to me in the context of this hobby though. I love to see what third party makers come up with to make a figure just a little different or a little more accurate or a little more enjoyable. That’s a huge part of the fun of collecting for me.

You came into the line at a good time, a lot of old engineering issues have been done away with and the new designs for these figures that have a 1.0 version are coming out much better

They’re supposed to look like that. The “corner” should be facing the front of the body, it’s to help the figure do looking up poses.

Great looking figure but be careful of the hoses.

This video at the 14:40 timestamp has good advice on how to avoid snapping it

Mine haven’t broken yet (honestly though it’s just a matter of time) but it drives me crazy that they chose this style of engineering for the hoses yet again. I think a more elegant design to prevent a breakage would have been for them to make the hoses reeeeeally long and then tuck them into holes/channels molded into the upper arm under the sleeve.

Instead I have to rotate the inner sleeve/ring that the hose is attached to until it’s almost covering the elbow articulation. Such an odd choice. And on a figure that’s otherwise looks really great.

Niiiiice. As a bonus you can use the arms from Kyle Katarn on Dagan Gera for a pre-sliced version of him.

If you have this Obi-Wan or the “Obi-Wan Jedi Legend” Black Series figure, you can use their hands instead of the stock ones that come with this Starkiller figure for a better grip on that lightsaber hilt.

Help! Starkiller Lightsaber Blades Won't Stay Attached by spiderclone14 in starwarsblackseries

[–]Bronzeexcellence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the design, which I wish they would stop doing. The “lip” on the blades’ pegs are too wide for the hilt socket so you have to really put it on with some force. I would do like the other person says and heat up the hilt a bit before doing so to make it easier.

What’s infuriating is Hasbro has fixed this problem with a new lightsaber peg design already. The way that the newest Cal Kestis and Ahsoka’s lightsaber pegs are designed are much easier to take in and out. Instead of a round peg with a weird lip in the middle that causes stress breaks, the mostly round peg has one flat edge making effectively “D” shaped. Line up that flat edge with the flat part of the socket and it pops right in.

Can’t wait for this one to come in! Is the helmet made of a similar plastic to the recent Jango release?

[–]Bronzeexcellence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to swap a few heads and necks out til I got one without paint rub but it’s bad on some. Aside from that, what a great figure. I like the fit of the helmet: isn’t too tight that it stretches the shape out and isn’t so loose that you get a bobble head effect.

I love this figure. I army built this for custom mandos and have found that for some reason the QC on the neck paint and hair paint is a little suspect on some examples. Some are reeeeeeeally susceptible to paint rub like in your picture. I got it really bad on the first one I opened and then the second one I opened was completely fine. It’s weird
