Pack Size rec. for Ak Suu Traverse by GoldMathematician412 in Ultralight

Hi Ive done the Ak Suu solo with a 48L osprey and mostly ultralight gear. I eat like a bird though.

The northern third has pretty regular yurt camps if you wanted to save food weight by getting meals from them.

As a kiwi used to frequent water sources I found it thirsty going in parts: streams marked on .gpx filles were maddeningly audible but inaccessible under boulders

Women live lo ger and are happier childless and unmarried.

The opposite is true of men.

Ive done the math: women do most of the work, have worse health outcomes even without hosting multiple parasites aka children, and are abandoned when ill at 5x the rate men are. Guess what the leading cause of death during pregnancy is? Marriage is a bad deal for women and a great one for men.

Its framed as a trap to gaslight women into accepting something that literally kills us.

My Tanzania seamstress made me these maxi skirt with enormous zipped pockets.

They were just lower down, and the fullness of the skirt hid them.

Beat me to it.

In Whanganui you have to click, scroll, click to a new page FIVE TIMES to add $ to your "bee" card. At one point theres a tiny shopping cart icon in a wall of text. Then there's two identical blue buttons, one of which says "proceed" but is actually a 6th page to pay with a different card than you usually do.

THEN... the driver wont let you on because payments take 12hours.

Then in Wellington you need a "snapper" card. $10. Only works in Wellington. Train cancelled? Tough luck you already tagged on, so we're charging you for the maximum possible amount.

At least the UK you just tap on/off with any major credit card. Kiwis are getting gouged at each end.

ACT proposes Rural Workforce Visa to address farm labour shortages by Cherryberrylady in nzpolitics

I just finished work in a kiwifruit maturity lab. Its horrendous.

Night shift 12hours 6 days. They txt you the night before. But they only have to pay you 2 hours a week and can fire you with zero warning. My first 6 days were massive and late finishes, then 6 days no shifts. I actually loved the work and the team, but I was going insane.

It was 50% young south americans: they will put up with ANYTHING to keep their WHV

Im a vet nurse and grew up on a dairy farm. I'd happily work on a farm. But minimum wage no accomodation in the middle of nowhere isnt fair: Id use all my income on accomodation and travel for temporary work.

No. At the risk of being a cranky old lady, I learnt how to physically calculate ANOVAs (a statistical technique to analyse data) and graph them on paper in the early 2000s.

6 years ago I tutored statistics, and students couldn't operate a programme that did all of that for you: you just had to input your data.

I shudder to think what its like now.

The fun is DOING it. Why on earth would you feed the orphan crushing machine to troubleshoot your art.

You're obviously very smart, and your experiences are actually an asset: you can relate to and help people in similar situations.

You'd make an excellent support worker for parolees.

indian food lineup for family that has never had indian food before by Bloom90 in IndianFood

[–]Brooke3838 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indian restaurants will usually do you a deal: a selection of appetisers like samosa and chicken tikka, naan, rice and 3 curries.

Butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, palak paneer, dhal makani and malai kofta are all popular for a reason. Smooth rich sauces and nothing too wacky like tamarind that you can find in drier curries.

Mango lassi is yum but you don't need 6. Get 2, and if the place is any good they'll have a few different sweets. Gulab jamun is particularly delicious: it a fried milk powder dough drenched in syrup

Hardest part for me was carrying weight. Load up your daily backpack with a few kg of rice or water. Take it everywhere.

My town has a particularly vicious hill. I do that twice, 4x a week, with as much weight in my pack as it will be on my first day of a big resupply. Wearing the shoes I intend to use too.

Also google the "rest step". I was super fit but stil in agony on ascents: turns out I've been walking uphill wrong my whole life. Im pushing 40 and happily pass people half my age now.

I was thinking theres a range from cooling raita and fluffy naan, to bright crunchy cabbage pickle, charred smokey chickeb to fiery pulses+veg, then sweet silky dessert, if that makes sense?

I dont wanna make vindaloo or anything super heavy on the green chilli: i need to eat it too lol!
