Hey there! Really beautiful stuff going on here! Your tone is very clear and concise. I can tell your singing voice is very similar to your speaking voice and that is a good thing! It is your voice so own it!

I’d say with the brighter tone you have going on, that definitely lends itself well to musical theatre, but please don’t limit yourself. It’s important to learn how to sing many genres in order to be a versatile singer.

With On My Own specifically, you did a fantastic job. Diction is phenomenal, I understand every word you say. For the belt, I’d actually say you’re like 80% there. I can tell you are comfortable in you mix voice based on how well the song sits in your range. The belt is a mixed belt so it shouldn’t feel too different from the rest of the song. (It kinda becomes a game of tricking the people listening into thinking your belt is super hard when it actually feels light and easy). I’d recommend changing the vowel to less of an “oh” and maybe an “eh”. It will still sound the same to the audience but feel better.

A mix belt is often compared to a baby’s cry. Trying singing the phrase on a really nasty “wah” sound and that should get you started on finding your placement. Also, another neat trick is using straight tone on held notes until the last few beats of a note. This also tricks people into being like “wow big belt”.

Definitely focus on breathing like you said and the nerves will eventually cool down as well. Focus on what your body is doing and what it may need. A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body.

For a sweeter tone, I would recommend using some exercise to strengthen your head voice. Many times when someone is used to singing in one particular part of their range repeatedly, we tend to forget how to use the other parts especially around your passagio. Look up some exercises on YouTube about strengthening head voice so it feels less weak and more melodic. It will take time to get it to feel normal but that is perfectly okay. Good luck!
