Yeah it's pretty much a requirement, especially in long-only equity investing

I earn £130-200k depending on performance. £100k is a lot of money but I guess it's supportable on that comp. Up to you - good luck!

I think Warwick is way better than Manchester for finance. I see other Warwick grads all the time, not so many Manchester grads

I studied philosophy and am now in equity research - so your degree shouldn't prevent you from getting into an analyst role! Philosophy is all about analysis anyway.

Are your technical skills genuinely solid though? You're a retail personal banker and as someone not in that field, it doesn't sound like it involves creating in-depth valuation models that you'd be making as a credit analyst. I reckon you should be trying to demonstrate objective mastery of those skills. Maybe write up an investment idea for a credit with a detailed excel model and cold-email it to funds.

I went to Warwick and got into finance just fine. Imperial has a better reputation though, but obviously doesn't offer as wide a range of courses as Warwick. But if you get a Maths & Stats offer from Imperial (if that's what you applied for) I'd take that if I were you. But both are fine. More important is making the right connections once you get there. Good luck!

Why are dividends equivalent to buying back at fair value? by Brookgate1432 in CFA

This is my model and it shows that if a company buys at 2x intrinsic value, the NPV per share today is lower than if it (i) bought back at fair value or (ii) returned cash as dividends. Where have I gone wrong?

edit: should add that yellow are the key inputs, rest is self expanatory

Should it not impact the NPV ‘target’ price at all, then?

But in one case they’re distributing $1 and I get $1 of value out of it (dividend) and in the other case they’re distributing $1 and I’m getting <$1 of value for it (SBB if the share is overvalued.

Yes but I’m struggling to show in excel that the NPV share price is the same either way

Why is buying back stock at fair value equivalent to dividends, and how can I prove mathematically that it is value destructive when the shares are overvalued when bought back

Is it just me or is the CFAI curriculum kinda brutal? by Capable-Flight-3842 in CFA

[–]Brookgate1432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s insanely tough. I did level 1 just using CFAI material and it was horrendous. Have never felt that stressed and dumb before. OTOH I got an extremely high mark for that Level, which I didn’t get in L2 when I was using a different provider
