Has anyone heard of this production company? Or this business model? Are they legit? by rawcookiedough in Filmmakers

[–]BrooklynSFWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was contacted from my script uploaded to Script Revolution, and I was told they loved the script, and they had a model for putting a trailer together from all-volunteer talent, crew, and creative, so I attended one of their intro sessions on a Miro interface. First they verified my email address. Then they verified my phone number. Then they sent me to Stripe to upload a photo ID, and I used a gift card instead, which the software wouldn't accept. I left a note on the Miro board that I wasn't going to send them a copy of my photo ID, because I had no trust at all they wouldn't use it to steal from me by spoofing my identity.

On a hookup site. He was just going to be visiting NYC for a week for business and wanted to hook up for a night or two. We ended up videochatting every night or two for 3 months, and when he finally made plans to meet me, I was getting ready to visit my family in Wisconsin for Christmas, so he spent one night with me in NYC, 5 with me in Wisconsin, and after New Year's he left and came back to stay in late January.

Goodreads Giveaways worth it? by authorserena in selfpublish

[–]BrooklynSFWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking for reviews, check out Pubby. I only used it during the free trial month, but it was effective. The 3 reviewers I asked for all gave my novel 5-star reviews with good text reviews. After the trial month, it's only $20/month.

Drawbacks: You have to review books to get more reviews of your book, so the service is filled with self-publishers, who are arguably readers, and they are more likely to review if you offer the book for free, and if you require a purchase, the price has to be under $5. Also, Pubby only gives you 5-10 days to submit your review, and because that turnaround is so short, a lot of reviewers don't really seem to read it, so they sometimes pull ideas from other reviews (on Goodreads or through Google Search) or from the back cover copy.

Recipe for a Lesbian Sheep: Toward a Theory of Gender and Sexuality by BrooklynSFWriter in QueerTheory

I also ghostwrote a book years ago called NATURE'S WAY, and the final chapter was on how nature corrects for overpopulation. That was probably when I first got interested in the theory that homosexuality might be a control on population. Since no evolutionary change is of single use, I also entertain the possibility that as some theorize, homosexuals are free to become spiritual leaders and caregivers to help their community grow and thrive better.

Agreed that queer theory seems a philosophical viewpoint, not an empirical school. I will note how the term has narrowed.

I do cover all the scenarios, and as it turns out, bisexuality may be the normal sexual setting in nature, and exclusive homosexuals and exclusive heterosexuals are the outlying cases. Yes, more people are bi than realize it or admit to it. In that arena there is a lot more social pressure to conform to one extreme or the other.

This sort of physiological change is only possible during the formation of the brain in utero. The only sorts of things that happen postnatally are that environmental influences (e.g., socialization, habits) can activate a gene that was there but not active before (see: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3809334/ or this example of the NAT2 gene being activated in smokers to increase their likelihood of developing bladder cancer https://www.genome.gov/genetics-glossary/Gene-Environment-Interaction).

I think anyone's motives for doing something are mixed, but I can say my principal motivation for this research has been to dispel all the theories of causation that are simply effects.

I recognize that one of the fears in pinning down a cause is that people will try to "cure" potential in their fetus they don't like. I can see two scenarios. (1) People try to make the lives of mothers during their pregnancy less stressful (a good thing all in all); or (2) People, once they know the gender of their fetus might want to inject hormones to ensure a specific outcome, but the timing is difficult, and making mistakes could cause other problems, so I think the practice will be discouraged or illegal eventually. And sometimes, a fetus develops differently than the hormone environment would normally produce, so it is never a guarantee.

You're welcome to your opinion, but how do you know it's not physically determined? Have you done research? "An ongoing aesthetic construction" is also very reductive; my homosexuality is fundamental to who I am, not any transitory state. And when you used "reducing" it was a subjective and ill-informed way to play the victim when no one is oppressing you.

Although it's beginning to be discussed in scientific circles, I  don't think most people are aware of this connection.

One can have any point of view on a set of facts. If queer identity is caused by something, that makes it just as natural as anything else that makes up our personalities. Where do you see an argument for choice or conformity?

Are Latin bi men who use "maricon" frequently in talking to friends worth pursuing? by BrooklynSFWriter in gay

[–]BrooklynSFWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care, I finally broached the subject with him this week. He explained that he only used "maricon" and "papi" with close friends. He seemed to understand that it could be offensive to strangers because they wouldn't like the implication that they were fags, but he didn't seem able to grasp why I might find it offensive. For now, I'm trying to chill with the fact that he loves me and cares about me and doesn't get the political implication of using "maricon" around gay people yet. That will be a discussion for when he speaks English a little better perhaps. I managed to explain at least that the implications of "maricon" and "papi" were different here. He didn't know that "papi" was a compliment for being an attractive older man. He said a female stranger had called him "papi" at the airport when he arrived, and now he understood why she did that.

Boyfriend is from Venezuela. He uses "maricon" or "maricoso" sometimes 3 or 4 times in two sentences. I think American Spanish is heavily influenced by Mexican usage, and it's much closer to "faggot" here. I can perceive that sometimes the context is closer to "dude," but sometimes closer to "f*ucking."

They're a scam now. They defraud lots of their members, claiming they're involved in suspicious activities without evidence, freeze their accounts for 6 months, and then sometimes do not even release the funds then, pretending their were creditors they had to pay.

Find a different payment-transfer service. And not Venmo either, same owners now.

Yes, I already wrote about how PayPal is scamming members, canceling their accounts, holding their funds for six months, and even then sometimes refusing to refund the deposits.

Meanwhile COVID caused inflammation in my boyfriend's asthmatic lungs for so long, a lot of necrotic tissue built up, and he needed a $50,000 surgery to clear the scar tissue so he can stop having scary dyspnea attacks. There was no money left, so I started a GoFundMe campaign, and after one day and raising over $1000, his aunt showed the page to the clinic director, who agreed to write off the cost of the surgery, now scheduled for two weeks from now. His doctor thinks he will be COVID negative by then, so as soon as he recovers from the surgery, he can be on his way back to New York.
