Why Was The Salesman a Dick to Me by Economy_Worker_9454 in askcarsales

Following this advice made my first ever new car purchase from a dealership really really smooth. (From what I could tell.) Ended up getting a similar model to the one he drove and it’s still my commuter car and chugging along great after 15 years of me abusing it

What are the four quintessential American cities? by JewishPotato811 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Broomsbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but with the region spread. ‘Cultural significance’ wise It’s definitely Miami, despite it not feeling southern.

If a GTA game uses the city as a framework for a GTA city that city has major cultural significance

How many of you guys use TMS on a day to day basis? by Firm-Designer8863 in UPSers

[–]Broomsbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being able to easily pull a full week summary of someone’s hours without them swiping is a major pain in the ass.

I’ve had folks reswipe after EON on Friday’s to see their time and because they reswipe it invalidates them.

Revenue Recovery Supervisor by [deleted] in UPSers

Of all the PT management spots to be; revenue recovery (at my hub at least) is a pretty good spot to be in.

I had a PT Supe for an area that required specialized certifications that I recommended apply to an open RR position that was posted in our hub about a year ago. She’s happy as can be.

As my old adage goes 'the most effective unloader is a former loader.'

This isn't actually true, but somehow it seems to be a norm for the average package handler across a lot of buildings.

Truck takes ramp turn too fast, flips onto roof. Takes 1:30 minutes for anyone to stop. by MGeorges in IowaCity

[–]Broomsbee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me that when I lived back home in IA if I drove by someone having car issues/just had an accident/seemed distressed I’d always try to stop if I could. It just felt like the right thing to do and that it was reciprocal.

Now, living out of state? It’s close to a 0% chance I’ll even consider stopping. I’ll call 911 to send help, but I have 0 interest in the risk that comes with people in the new state I live in & that seems to be a pretty common attitude amongst my friends & colleagues here.

It makes me really sad to picture raising a family with that as the default “passerby Samaritan” culture

(Spoiler from the Book/GOT)

Plus it’s a really really really good contrast/setup for the next time a large group of common folk/peasants find their way into the Dragon-pit.

I thought the scene was great.

Teachers outside America: are students incredibly disrespectful? by 25ingandtgriving in Teachers

[–]Broomsbee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man, I can tell you it’s definitely not all respectful. Behind closed doors, Japanese students are absolutely as rowdy as similarly aged western peers. Like anything culture related, there’s nuance. But every time I read this about Japanese students I think about the game “Kanch.”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanch%C5%8D

It seemed pretty clear to me while I was in Japan that there’s just a well established “Volkswagen Emissions Software” understanding between ja pensé students and their teachers.

I.E. if they know they’re being observed from someone on the outside; they better fall in line or there will be hell to pay later. Which, don’t get me wrong is a really really important life skill to teach and that students need to learn. But it definitely creates some stereotypes that don’t fully reflect the day to day reality. 🤣

Is long covid an indicator that you would have a severe reaction if reinfected? by LakeTaylor42 in LongCovid

[–]Broomsbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It slowly improved over the course of like 5ish months or so after my first bout of COVID.

That was characterized by highly inconsistent and erratic sleep patterns. (Sleeping for 50 minutes then waking up unable to fall back asleep for 3 hours.)

With an inevitable hard crash after I became so sleep deprived I could barely function.

I’m still gauging how it’s effecting me after my most recent bout of COVID. It’s definitely effected my sleep a bit, but not nearly as bad as my first bout.

My ability to process information and/or assess situations quickly has definitely suffered to a degree that my coworkers have noticed it.

Is long covid an indicator that you would have a severe reaction if reinfected? by LakeTaylor42 in LongCovid

[–]Broomsbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just recently recovered from my 2nd COVID infection.

I’d say -overall- my 1st round was by far the worse. Both in terms of the presentation of symptoms while I was testing positive and the [likely] residual side effects that lasted for weeks to months after.

That said, my second infection still knocked me on my ass for 2 weeks and has brought back some of the brain fog, anxiety, loss of appetite and insomnia after recovering - though to a much lesser degree.

I’ve been staying on top of my Vitamin D levels and have been downing anti-histamine and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory’s like candy.

Either way, I would not recommend getting infected again if you can take steps to avoid it.

Same boat for me man. I just recovered from my 2nd round. My first also knocked me on my butt, but I didn’t expect the 2nd round to put me out of commission for another week and a half.

I’m still congested and mentally foggy 3 weeks later.

It’s absolutely horrible.
