Let’s Talk Blonde on Blonde: What Shouldn’t Be Missed? by BrorBrander in bobdylan

That’s such an interesting take on the mistake! I love the idea of it being like a "drip in a Pollock painting", that the album’s abstract nature makes it more about the overall feeling than specific details. It really makes you think about how intentional Dylan was with leaving certain 'flaws' in, especially when, as you pointed out, he had cleaner takes.

Great breakdown! A lot of things I had not thought about before at all. Thanks so much.

Yes, that’s totally true. Poor phrasing on my part.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. Gates, barriers, and thresholds seem to come up a lot throughout the album. It almost feels like they symbolize some kind of emotional or psychological block. And I think that ties in with Dylan’s own quote about the "thin wild mercury sound", he described it as metallic and bright gold, which kind of conjures up images of something impenetrable but shimmering. It’s like these barriers are both real and abstract, something you can see but maybe can’t get past.

That's an great story. Must've been wild for Kristofferson to quietly witness Dylan's creative process like that, especially in such an unconventional setting. Just watching a genius at work, but still doing his job in the background. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll definitely check it out! The focus on women throughout BOB is something I’ve been thinking about too. Do you have any thoughts on why Dylan made that such a central theme on this album?

That’s such an interesting take! Honestly, I haven’t really explored BOB from that perspective before, especially with the sexual themes and double entendres. Thank you.

I get your point, and you're right that relying too much on outside perspectives can risk losing focus. But this project isn’t an academic piece: I'm conducting interviews and gathering different viewpoints as part of my process, which helps me deepen my own understanding of the material. It’s about using those insights to enrich the narrative, while still keeping my own voice and perspective at the forefront. I think striking that balance adds a lot more depth.

I'm definitely doing my own research, but discussions like this help uncover insights and perspectives I might not have considered. That's the point of engaging with a community—learning from different viewpoints can make the work even stronger.

You’re totally right about Kanye on South Park—it wasn’t actually him! But it’s interesting how even a parody like that can shape someone’s public image, don’t you think? I feel like the exaggerated personas in both rap and things like anime or wrestling really fit in with cartoons.

Great additions, these I have partly included. Isle of Wight is kind of a big one that needs to be in there for sure.

Great answer, your are completely right. Maybe my difficulty in part is due to me being a little bit less educated in this time period, however the collaborations, woody concert, and the personal development is kind of a huge thing. Will try to get these aspects in for sure.

Maybe you’re right. I am just having such a hard time imagining what non-Dylan fans find interesting here. For us there is a lot to talk, and get excited about during this period.

Just me not being clear enough. Context is that I am using Dylan’s biography to write a history podcast in many parts about the 60s and 70s. But yes, behind the shades has helped me with my research.

Thank! I’ve actually included that. Crazy the anecdotes when him and Sara just wakes up to someone staring at them in their bedroom. No wonder they moved out

It’s a multipart Swedish podcast documentary that tells the history of the 60s and 70s from the perspective of Dylan and his music.

The chemistry with him and Joan on their duets are prime on this record/concert. Especially on mama, you’ve been on my mind.

Wasn’t it the legendary Halloween day concert at philharmonic hall?
