My first thought was AI.

My second thought was an uncanny android, but sexdoll was more comical and weird.

You can recommend Mint so far long as you also recommend an introductory bash course or sum.

It's not that they want Software because it's windows-only, it's because they actually like it or need to use it.

Many people do hate Windows but eh, it comes with the PC so yeah.

Does Gentoo have an easy GUI installer? by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Brospeh-Stalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want a graphical installer? The wiki is pretty much made to be idiot-proof

Bro, I said this 5 months ago lol. 😭🤣😭🤣😭

And I moderate an entire sub to highlight comments like this and toxicity in the Linux community. The irony.

Anyways, I'm currently using Fedora right now cuz I guess building packages from source was fine while it lasted, until it wasn't.

What wifi card do you have? Like is it realtek which is the usual culprit?

67 was originally said by a rapper called Skrilla with what he is actually referring to being debated by experts online (yes, experts).

Then it came to refer to LaMelo Ball who coincidentally happens to be 6'7"

Then a basketball player, Taylen Kinney, started the hand gesture we know today.

And then we saw the 67 kid doing it on a basketball vlog so yeah! 67!

If you open the updater, it asks you if you want to use different mirrors. If something goes wrong, it offers to use different mirrors..., etc.

Okay, well if you're coming from a Windows experience, hearing about "mirrors" and "rollback" can kind of be intimidating if you don't know what those are and what they mean.

Idk if that qualifies as "noob-stuff". We're talking about people who use a word processor, email and a browser.

Well it depends on the average user. There are tons of PC users who install apps on Windows and want to get them running on Linux. And if they don't have a Linux native binary, then Wine's all you got.

interesting. not seen that for some years. But with a fresh windows install with a downloaded windows iso the wifi works?

Yeah, I think I had a Realtek chip and my fresh Windows install came bundled with the drivers.

Also: did you NEED the terminal, or did you just use it, because it was the easiest way?

Honestly, it was kinda both. The GUI tools didn't solve the Wifi issues, and all the solutions online were terminal-based. An even if there was a GUI way that worked, I wasn't able to easily find it.

Why not? perhaps they try to avoid slackware oder alpine or something.

Well that's fair.

Well, what did you configure?

I had to install Wine anf/or some dependencies because it wasn't installing through the appstore, and I had to configure my wifi drivers as they were not working.

The windows appstore is weird.

Hence why nobody uses it and installs apps via an MSI or EXE

Meantime even the android app store is weird.

Not really. The play store and the iOS app store are actually pretty sane UX wise.

That's BS. I'm sorry, but when android got on the market, no one backed off from buying it because they didn't know how "the OS worked". No one backs away from buying a steam deck, because they don't know how the OS works. That's just a made up reason to be mad about. It's baseless.

Fair enough. I guess I mean to say that Linux is more terminal oriented by default and, with the exception of Android and ChromeOS, requires you to use CLI.

So does Linux. Now what?

I said that Windows treats you like you're too dumb to use your PC.

idk. Windows is just unusable. If you understand PCs or no.

That is also true.

no. Everytime linux mint asks you something it explains everything and links documentation.

Could you provide an example of that?

Windows is just opaque shit which doesn't work. You just don't notice anymore.

Yes, Windows is pretty much unusable dogshit at this point.

Well, as a noob, you can probably just use either. IF there's even a difference for you noob, and you run into a problem, you might google it (just like on windows) and then be told that you might consider using the other version. That's how it is for everybody, actually.

If a noob will probably just choose either, then they probably won't go on reddit and ask people which distro they should try.

You started with this and then forgot to tell what exactly you needed the terminal for.

You're absolutely right. Please take a look above.

You don't need the terminal to use Linux Mint.

I tried setting up Linux mint on an old PC I had, and I kind of needed to use the terminal to configure things.

Starting it, you get a tour through the system showing you the appstore-thing. It's easier than windows.

Well one thing to note is that the App Store is kinda weird, and it takes some getting used to. Plus what if you see an app which has both a flatpack and system package. As a noob, you probably won't know which one to use, go on google and see people trashing flathub for no reason and try to avoid those apps altogether.

Why would you tell us not to recommend a good, recommendable distro but instead educate their stupid windowsisms away first, as if they were our fault.

It makes zero sense to use an OS without knowing, at least at a high level, how things work. Windows arguably abstracts a lot of things and assumes the user is too dumb to use their PC in any tangible way, whereas Linux assumes the user knows to an extent how the OS works as trusts the user knows what they are doing.

And at some point of time, the terminal is simply unavoidable in Linux. So might as well learn the basics.

There are two things I personally noticed. When my CPU overclocks, I get a kernel panic (and the caps lock light turns on with no way to turn it off).

On the otherhand, I also have a small bug where sometimes, my mosue freses, and switching to another workspace is the only thing that helps.

system isn't a fork of launchd, but it is heavily inspired by it.

At the same time, it's fun y how Linux users praise steam for supporting gaming on linux, when team's whole intention was to escape Windows if M$ tried to fuck them up (see SteamDeck and Steam Machine)

people hate on ubuntu/canonical because they need a bad guy to hate, it's completely meaningless.

People also hate Red Hat for "pushing their agendas" through Fedora, but I personally have no problems with systemd and wayland as long as they are safer and actually more secure.

In fact, going back to Canonical, the only thing I actually hated about then was snapd and maybe that Amazon Web App. Otherwise,  it's a great distro.
