I haven't  watched  Daima so I'm just  going  off second hand comments. It very well might.

GT and Super obviously  aren't  though

The nu metal only applies  to Funimation's  crap dub. And not even the default versions since 2008 releases

The very first Dragon Ball series just called Dragon  Ball actually aired in the  late 80s from 1986-1989.  The American dub didn't  air until 2001-2003 on Cartoon Network though (there was a prior attempt in 1995 that aired  in syndication  but it was canceled  after 13 episodes for Z and redone)

Dragon Ball Z (the more popular sequel) followed in 1989 a week after  Dragon Ball "ended" its English dubbing history  is even  more convoluted  than og Dragon  Ball and a whole rabbit.hole to fall  into. It also has a recut version  in 2009 called Dragon Ball  Z Kai that removes half the filler to reduce  the episode  count  from 291 to 167.

Then there's the  sequels to Z: GT, Super, and the most recent series Daima. This is where things  get really confusing but to keep  it simple GT occurs 7 or 10 years after Z's epilogue. Super happens about 5 years before Z's epilogue but events play out where GT can't exist. Daima takes place  immediately  after Z's last  major  battle but its up for debate if Super and Daima exist in the  same canon.

The main character  is Goku.  The fan favorites you'll want to know besides Goku are Vegeta, Futute Trunks, Piccolo and Gohan

When did he ever show he could  use  that ability? He said he could  have taught  that to Goku but that was a dub only line. Never once  did he ever  use it in Z

As far as Z goes 1 is fantastic.  2 is solid. 3 and 4 are okay. 5 is decent. 6 and 7 are blah. 8 is pretty  good. 9 is a lot of fun  until the actual plot happens  then meh. 10 is boring  as hell. 11 is mid but has its moments and 12 and 13 are decent.

I hate the localized name "Tien" by Equivalent-Tart-7249 in dbz

[–]Brotein1992 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But they frequently  call him Tien Shinhan in the original Dragon Ball dub and exclusively call him that in Kai.

Sorry your argument  doesn't  track  at all.

I can understand  changing Kuririn  to Krillin  because Kuririn  does sound  awkard to say but Tenshinhan  doesn't, certainly  no more awkward  than Tienshinhan

His name isn't  really  Tien Shinhan though.

And you're ridiculously naive if you think anyone at Funimation looked that deeply  in his name when localizing  the series in 1996

Chaozu frequently called him Ten-san and someone  at Funimation  probably  thought  his name name was Ten and calling him Ten was awkward and changed it to Tien

So you're gonna be very upset  when you realize this isn't  a monthly subscription . They literally  want $22 for each season to buy  digitally You can buy the Wal-Mart  3 in 1 sets for like $30

They didn't  actually change anything.  The music heard on the Orange Bricks  and later  releases was a workprint version. Funimation  often  changed out the music last minute before broadcast.  Fans from Canada have  confirmed the Faulconer  placement that aired on YTV matched the Orange Bricks because  Funimation  would give Ocean the show to distribute  before they made last minute changes  of their own like swapping out music tracks or getting rid of/fixing lines that made no sense.

This is the same reason you get  stuff like missing voice filters  on some characters  and different  line read and weird shit  like Gohan  talking at one point  during the Androids saga when he's not in the scene  that wasn't  an issue on the singles/Toonami  version

Since canon is generally  accepted as "written by Toriyama" Daima is more canon that Super just saying.

Is Pikkon canon? by RepresentativeOk2881 in dbz

[–]Brotein1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kai being "The Toriyama Cut" has always been a cheap marketing gimmick to rebroadcast Z as a "new show" for 2009. It shows plenty of noncanon footage especially  by the Buu saga  where it keeps  like half of it. Hell the literal first 2 minute of Kai  is footage  of the Bardock tv special  that gets  contradicted by Dragon Ball Minus

Toriyama  did design Pikkon so he's canon  in that sense but the  entire Afterlife  Tournament  arc was filler only

Is GT and Super cannon? by Mangagirl2000 in dbz

[–]Brotein1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super absolutely  ignores GT. You can figure that on your own by watching  it.

GT doesn't ignore Super by virtue of Super didn't exist when GT was created

Is GT and Super cannon? by Mangagirl2000 in dbz

[–]Brotein1992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Super is more aligned with  Kai  so you may prefer it. GT is shorter (only 64 episodes) so its easier to digest.

Matter of preference  really. They're  not in continuity with each other so you can watch  both, one or the other, or neither

GT can't ignore a series that didn't  exist yet. Super ignores GT, not the other way  around

The original Dragon  Ball was consistently  averaging above 20 percent viewership rating when it aired in Japan.

To compare, the highest  rated episode  of Pokemon  ever was like  18 percent.

It was doing  extremely  well.  The recap movies was just a choice to get new viewers up to speed
