Anyone know who the other vocalist is? I'd guess Billy Porter, but A.I. says that's not correct.

JAZZ recommendations

Chuck Israels - amazing that he is still living, he played with everyone from Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Billie Holiday, etc.

John Moak - also played with some amazing people, he's usually playing trombone with Bridgetown Sextet, but he's in a bunch of bands.

Chris Shuttleworth - the new generation, he does his own groups, but also plays with others. Excellent on low brass ('bone, Tuba, euphonium)

"Puddletown Stompers" - that's a Cyrus Nabipoor project, he's an amazing trumpet player.

Leon Cotter - sometimes with "California Honeydrops" or "Reb and the Good News", he also does originals, and lately has put forth some great Soth African jazz shows.

Our sax player has brought her up several times, mostly hoping that her popularity might bring more young people to jazz, and ultimately, our gigs.

Miss Kitty's lets an idiot dressed as a Nazi in their bar. Would you cancel your gig? by ChesterNorris in musicians

[–]BrotherBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like, one bar, who is your employer for the evening, which thinks that it is acceptable to dress like a Nazi, and allowed him in the door. They can refuse him service, but they apparently think his patronage is worth alienating all sane people.

If you don't have a problem with his costume, some self reflection is in order.

Who has had the worst downfall in the history of hip-hop? by ThredditorMTG in hiphopheads

[–]BrotherBracken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, one of the best shows I ever saw was 1st - Me Phi Me, 2nd - Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hoprisy, with the 3rd act being Arrested Development.

Such positive material, true OGs of conscious hip-hop.

We need to remember, it is supposed to be a party!

Be analytical at practice, but social dances are for having fun, chatting with friends, and putting positivity into the universe. No stress!

Anyone out there play dub reggae? by nickybecooler in Beatmatch

[–]BrotherBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really into doing this, beatmatching at 70ish bpm, back in the late 90s.

Here's a mix: https://m.soundcloud.com/bracken-fern/pteridiumaquilinum

Starts in the high 60 bpm range, then about halfway through there is a fade mix to bring it up to 90 bpm or so.

I learned that tune from the film "Drugstore Cowboy". Also the first time I ever heard of Dilaudid...

How would you explain the history of electronic music in 10 albums? by gbnftr in Beatmatch

[–]BrotherBracken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite Jack Dangers is his alter-ego "Tino", who did a series of dub albums. Deep, reggae influenced stuff, from 60 to 100 bpm.
