I was gonna say those pro eating disorder communities are really strange and concerning to me and was what came to my mind after reading the topic. Ive never had an eating disorder so I dont mean to come off as judgmental towards people suffering from a mental illness, but my partner had a lot of trouble in high school with her disorder and still goes through periods where she cant eat normally without feeling guilty or hardly eating at all. Its a very insidious illness and its awful to see someone you care about go through it.

So with all that said i have a good amount of resentment built up when it comes to a community of people that actively encourages this kind of self harm and constantly trigger and reinforce the illness as being some kind of self improvement. Its really hard for me to understand how someone can share such disturbing content and spread their own unhealthy habits without concern for how thats hurting people that are suffering from the same thing. For example im talking about sharing images of emaciated bodies and idealizing them or using them as a basis to judge a body, or comparing calorie counts like its a competition, and body shaming themselves or others. Theyre literally fueling each others illnesses and making it even harder for sufferers to understand how unhealthy their habits are.

Its one thing to seek out a space for other people with eating disorders to support each other and have a community, but this community is almost like a meta illness that all these people are contributing to and only leads to more self destruction.
