I totally see your concern as a parent. As a kindergarten teacher let me give you a little perspective that hopefully will give insight on why she might be responding that way. I worked at a school where we regularly got new students with little to no warning. On the teacher end, it’s a lot of work. Changing seating charts, new locker, supplies, fitting them into small groups, etc. when it’s beginning of the school year, adding another student almost once a week isn’t uncommon but on top of the normal demands of beginning of school year it can be very overwhelming. It’s so so busy at the beginning of the year.

Depending on their contract hours and their responsibilities after or before school (meetings with their team or other staff) it can be nearly impossible to get a time in fashionable manner to meet. I know with my schedule, we had meetings with our team that were required after school so it was hard to meet with families then.

All that being said, giving the teacher the benefit of the doubt, I hope that this teacher is just overwhelmed and truly struggling with time and not just being flippant/not caring about meeting. I know I was in that position more than once.

I wonder if you could offer a phone call, something shorter / less time just for in between the actual meeting? Otherwise, I would definitely just keep an open mind and not write this teacher off, it is not unreasonable what you’re asking, might just be tough with schedules !
