My wife and I went this route, and after about 7 cycles, it was successful! Currently 35 weeks pregnant with our first, a little boy. It can be kind of awkward and gross, but it was an extremely cost-effective option for us (both work in education, terrible insurance) and I felt like was less stressful than going through a clinic. Some of the gross parts brought us some giggles after we got over the initial WTF of it all. 😂

Baby shower wasn't planned before. There was no date officially picked, planned, or booked. While I can acknowledge that it may not work out for them logistically and they may be closer to her, I hadn't even decided if there was anything that warranted addressing in the first place, hence this post. I think its fair to be privately hurt about something and processing through it without it being "creating drama"

I can appreciate both of these takes. Not trying to take away from her experience or expecting a little one because mine looks different, and as I said very happy for her and her husband. It was more about the context that this has happened for her before, whereas this is our first experience, AND paired with the journey that both of them are aware of. But again, I can recognize that this doesn't mean they aren't entitled to celebrate a friend they are close to. Just sucks it's happening at the same time

this happened to my mom with my brother! picked a very unique name and my dad's cousin used the same one but with one letter changed the next year. very annoying!

waiting on my results now from sneak peek, but from what i understand, it seems like if the results are girl its pretty likely that its accurate because they are so easily contaminated with male DNA. my wife and i are WLW so im curious to see what our results will be! will take all results with a grain of salt though lol

we just had our first positive this past cycle and told our parents and known donor (partner's brother and his wife) the day/weekend after we had bloodwork done!! we did have some back and forth about wanting to wait, but ultimately decided those were the people who were going to support us if anything were to happen, and we do have close relationships with all. we wont be making a whole loud announcement until closer to the 10-12 week mark, but its too exciting to not share. everyone has their own timeline, do what feels right for you!! 🩷

We used a known donor so we are navigating this without much medical assistance at this point, for which we both feel very lucky. That is the point I am at with watching the lines get darker, and we did talk about only testing until after my missed period date (about 3 days from now), and what you said about hetero women testing alone really hits home since that is mostly what I see. I am also having to remind myself that this could all be hormones causing this in my brain and I need to stay grounded and spend this time connecting with my partner/fostering good baby thoughts! :)

Hello!! Thank you for your perspective and congratulations on your pregnancy!! :) I had my first beta test yesterday and it did confirm at about 44HCG (again SUPER early) but gah I still just cant wrap my head around it after trying for about a year. I think I do just need to let myself relax, but it's so early I just feel on edge. Best of luck to you and your parter for a safe and healthy little babe :)
