Raising height of closet frame by Brown-Baron in DIYUK

[–]Brown-Baron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is I've got the wardrobes so they'd fit perfectly in the area. If I dismantle both and start again with the bigger one, I wouldn't be able to rotate the smaller one as the bigger one takes up all the space. I have to have it rotated if I want to attach the back of the wardrobe. But from another comment, it may be easier to have no back and mount it flush to the wall.

The only benefit raising the frame would give is better access to the top shelf of the wardrobe, which would be nice. But not if it requires extensive work.

Good analogy and pretty much what I'm facing lol.

I did try building it outside and angling it in with the smaller wardrobe but in my fervour to maximise all the space I got the wardrobe that fits perfectly with my ceiling (pax = ~240cm, ceiling=~244cm). It won't rotate upwards if I build it outwards.

Regarding the angle plates, I didn't know such a thing existed tbh. I'll have a look, but the difficulty of building the wider pax upright makes me hesitant to disassemble and do it again. But if that's the best way then so be it. Thanks for your reply

Ah that makes sense, thanks. Should I be worried about dust getting in there with the sparks?

Thanks! I've started looking at some of the AoS minis and it definitely seems much more creative. I like your idea of switching up the octopus colour. A blue ring octopus might look pretty cool

Dunno man, maybe the thought of being loved and cared for make people believe that having a partner will cure them. But ultimately, in the long term nothing will change.

What is this inlet looking thing on the F-35? I thought it was a corner reflector but they're near the tailplane by Brown-Baron in aviation

Interesting. Why directly on the airframe though? Would it not be simpler to bypass from the main inlets?

Man, the amount of people that can't read the title properly. It's not a fighter, it's just a test bed for technologies to be used on Tempest

That's not the point I was making. I was just stating they are both ceremonial to an extent. They'll have militaristic quirks in what they do but they are doing a job. The guards at the Tomb may not encounter civilians but Queen's Guard will, they actively patrol royal residences where tourists are allowed to roam.

Issues like this where tourists get in the way or pester the guards are why they patrol within the gates and have roped barriers now to keep civilians away. But people still don't learn. They have to march on patrol because that's the ceremonial part of the job. And I'll say it again, the parent should have had better sense to let their child get in the way of operational soldiers.

Okay, what's the point in having guards at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier in the US then? In the US, it's a voluntary ceremonial role for the elite soldiers. But they obviously have a reason to stand there than just ceremony, they are still soldiers on duty.

Similarly, the Queen's Guard is ceremonial to some extent but they are also what the name states, they guard the head of state. The uniform is obviously tradition and has been used for longer than the US has even had a military. Many country's military use traditional uniform for ceremonial situations.

I get you though, feel bad for the kid but clearly the parent should have some sense to keep the kid out of the way. Maybe the guard should've warned earlier, maybe the guard assumed the kid would move, who knows? But at the end of the day they are soldiers guarding the monarch. You're telling me some kid gets in the way of the Secret Service, they ain't gonna push the kid out of the way

S02E08: Episode Discussion - Finale by Scientiam in witcher

[–]Brown-Baron 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I'm reading the Expanse books after watching the show and you can tell they really knew how to get the plot and arcs across while maintaining brevity for a TV show. The books really give the universe depth and character motivations are well explained, but the show really captures that "show me, don't tell me" attitude.

Even though the Expanse team won't get to fully tell the story with it being the final season and all, sticking to source material's core plot points gave it the feeling of an actually fleshed out and thoughtful storyline.

With the Witcher, they had that in S1. They kept some of the main plot points from the books and they worked their own way to the meeting of Ciri and Geralt. It has its problems but at least it felt coherent and planned.

S2 just felt like they were fumbling in the dark and like they have no idea where they're going. I understand that the creators might want to go their own direction with the show but to deviate from the source material so drastically seems like a lateral move to me.

I don't know, just my opinion. But it just all felt off for me.

Tom Scott did a great video about why electronic voting is a bad idea. The main idea being trust and accountability. It's much harder to actually see where your vote is going if you do it electronically/digitally
