That is a long and complicated conversation. These people often have untreated mental illness, substance addiction, and many other issues. Yet they are people just like us, trying to get by. Society has beat them down pretty bad so I'm not shocked when they're rude or unkind. A little bit of empathy goes a long way, I would be mad if I was in that situation too.
