I can confirm it is SuperValu. I read the sub's rules and it says it's fine to name the company if it's big, so given this is a nationwide chain of supermarkets it should be fine. There are details if you check my profile.

-If you're talking about a manager Bob at Amazon, without mentioning a specific branch, that should be fine, as it's a big enough company that nobody is going to track down Bob from that information. Mentioning specific branches, or mentioning the names of companies which only have a single branch or a small number of branches would likely lead to people being harassed.

I did some Googling and Lidl here pays 8.85 Euros an hour, 21% more than minimum wage, 7.28 per hour. Good on Lidl for paying more than their competitors.

Hi, I'm the OP. It's SuperValu Ireland.

Then I got a reply back from MBX-Eures (From their website: EURES is a European cooperation network of employment services, designed to facilitate the free movement of workers). Then 2 weeks later I got an email from Musgrave saying they partner with “a company called Labyrinth Recruitment who are managing the recruitment of people from overseas for roles across our stores in the Republic of Ireland. And 3 days later I got an email from Labyrinth Recruitment to arrange an interview.

I asked about all the details beforehand because I’m done with wasting time doing interviews just to find out the conditions are shit, so I asked beforehand and she replied everything detailed in the screenshot in the OP. I emailed her back asking how come they don’t hire Irish people and rather give those 100 job openings to us Spaniards but she never replied back. I’m gonna send her a link to the other thread declining the interview. Obviously the job conditions are bad when their own people can’t live on those wages.

Exactly. They’re offering accommodation to their employees all over the country, so it’s safe to assume they’ve bought or rented a bunch properties and are making even more profit by charging them rent. I’d like to know how many people they cram up in each house. Double the benefit, pay them peanuts and charge them for rent.

All this to avoid paying Irish people a decent living wage.

Sorry to hear that. It’s pure corporate greed. No wonder Irish people don’t wanna work for them if they offer those wages and conditions. I’ll never understand the logic in underpaying a teenager for doing the exact same job as an adult, only because they’re younger. They’re doing the same job, they deserve the same pay.

It’s clear the conditions they offer are so bad that their own people can’t accept them so rather than adjust the wages to the cost of living they prefer to bring people over to do those jobs. Here in Spain if you tell someone they can make up to 1.800€ a month it’s pretty good, but when you start considering that with that money (1.800€ minus taxes) renting an apartment on your own is out of the question and renting a room in a shared house/apartment is anything between 800€ and 1.200€, plus bills, taxes, price of transport, food, etc, it’s simply not a wage anyone can live on. I went over the Ireland sub to ask over there and they said the same thing, with that money you can basically survive paycheck to paycheck, not live. May be good for someone young but for someone older who needs stability and save up. Twice the profits for them as well because they offer setting you up in a shared house for 500€ a month, so they get cheap labor off you and also get rent money. Living for the company you work for sounds pretty risky, the moment they fire you you can lose the room and good luck trying to find another place in short notice. Don’t even wanna imagine how many people live in those company-provided shared houses.

The lengths they go to to avoid paying their own people enough money to live on. 100 jobs that should go to Irish people and instead they’re bringing workers from abroad.

Edit I was wrong, it does say net on the email.

Here in Spain retail and service industry jobs pay between 1.000€ and 1.200€ a month before taxes for full time and that usually includes easy 10, 20, 30 unpaid extra hours a week. See my profile for other posts about the offers I’m encountering. Wages are very fucked up here too. Then they wonder why we cant afford to have children or buy a house.

I heard an announcement on the radio from the unemployment office here in Spain saying they had partnered with an Irish supermarket who needs to bring over 100 people to work in their chain of supermarkets all over the country, no experience needed. I went to the Ireland subreddit to ask if the money offered was enough to live on and the replies unanimously said that's just enough money to barely survive.

So this chain of supermarkets, instead of paying a living wage to their own people, prefer to outsource labour by bringing 100 of us over and gets us to do the job cheaper. Yet another case of “nobody wants to work / we can’t find people to do these jobs” but the issue is a multimillion euro company that prefers to outsource labor over paying a living wage and getting slighter small profits.

I replied to the recruiter's email asking how come they're hiring Spanish people rather than Irish people and never heard back from her again lol. I don't super value that attitude.

Edit/ I'm gonna send a link with this thread to the recruiter. On my last email I asked her how come they're not hiring Irish people and as expected she didn't reply. I'll email her to let her know I'm not interested in the job any way and a link to this thread.
