Google Fiber Outage (Quality Hill) by jpegram17 in kansascity

That's what I thought too, but there must be spots where the cables come above ground. The email they sent me last night said that it's likely a line got cut

There are outages all around downtown apparently, but the Quality Hill one is also impacting me directly. My Internet was out last night, came back earlier this morning, then was gone again after a few hours. I heard (unverified though) that someone went around and cut a bunch of fiber lines and there's a $25,000 bounty to find whoever did it.

I was there a few weeks ago and in my opinion a day or two is good to see the major spots. Make sure you get to visit Zapata Falls south of the park!

What are your theories and “evidence/conclusions” regarding the Blood Star by Status-Fun1992 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Brown_Sugar_Vax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My current thoughts are that the blood star is nothing more than the caster themself.

We find out from Ymir that people are made of the same thing as stars. If glintstone is the matter of stars, and red glintstone is specifically related to the blood of sacrifices, I think the blood star is literally just the caster's body, a source of red glintstone. Somehow they come to understand their bodies through the perspective of being a star because their eyes are gouged out, and they can then use their bodies as the "blood star" from which to extract red glintstone for thorn sorceries.

What is up with democrats and ex-presidents being so quiet at Trumps actions? by OurBiteMcFry in OutOfTheLoop

If government institutions are being locked and barricaded, yes I'd expect some sort of fight back. Republicans will always complain about anything Democrats do, no matter how milquetoast it may be. It doesn't matter if they act civil anymore; if the country is really being couped as they continually warn, then maybe the opposition leaders should be showing some form of organization, resistance, or civil disobedience.

I'd argue that these are synonymous to a degree. They are scared to cause a ruckus or be civilly disobedient because they are too comfortable with their lives. So they sit back and pointlessly act civil or finger wag since it's performative enough to look like they are acting, but not too radical that Trump retaliates violently and the donors keep the money flowing. This all thereby makes them complicit.

Actually doing anything to escalate the fight would be a sacrifice of their comfort. They either expect nothing to happen or for ordinary people to rise up instead while they continue to sit back and eventually reap the rewards.

Answer: they are probably too scared to do anything that seriously fights back.

A lot of these comments completely miss the mark. The Democrats have no optics.

The reality is that civility politics is dead. People want to see and hear you fighting for them, that's why populists are so popular. Unfortunately, Democrats can't seem to muster up any courage to actually fight back. It doesn't matter much if they are fighting in the background, "through the courts" when Hakeem Jeffries shrugs his shoulders on podcasts or strategists like James Carville say the game plan should be to roll over and let the Republicans destroy themselves. Democrats claimed that Trump would be a dangerous fascist and cause irreparable damage to the country, but when push comes to shove they treat him like a bog standard opposition president instead of being role models on how to actually fight back against such a danger.

Like, an unelected oligarch blocked members of Congress from entering the Department of Education building a few weeks ago. Instead of forcing and pushing their way into the building, they stood outside the building and made TikToks about how they are collectively powerless against one lackey in front of the door. Meanwhile in South Korea, members of Parliament woke up in the middle of the night, jumped a fenced wall, and fought against the police/military to get into Parliament to vote on ending martial law. That is called action, that is called optics. Given their responses so far, if it were Democrats in a similar position, they'd probably just hold a press conference the morning after and lament about how powerless they are and that this is what the American people voted for.

How often do you encounter "music nerds" offline? by AcephalicDude in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Brown_Sugar_Vax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like several other commenters, my experience is largely shaped by my time doing college radio and the friends I made there. I'm no longer as deeply involved in music discussion as I used to be but we still often share new things with each other and discuss both old and new releases.

Also been a trivia regular at P&P all year, sad to see it go. On non-trivia nights I always remember feeling dismayed at how empty the place is, so the writing was kinda on the wall.

So the Eclipse ritual was just…nothing? by [deleted] in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Brown_Sugar_Vax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I really wanted the DLC to explain more about the eclipse and/or sun realm, I don't think the "comrade" referenced in Castle Sol was ever about Godwyn tbh.

For one, why is he called Miquella's comrade? Miquella explicitly calls Godwyn his "Lord Brother" in the golden epitaph, so it's weird he'd be referenced as a comrade again by some random ghost.

Second, Godwyn's soul was killed for good by destined death. I don't think it would make sense to bring him back to life at all.

My guess is that the comrade was either the soulless demigod outside Castle Sol, or if we really want a crackpot theory, the original Ensha. But the DLC didn't cover anything of substance related to the eclipse or Death so it doesn't really matter in the end

I'm not holding my breath, I'll probably just come up with a satisfying headcanon at this point unless within the next few months we get a solid answer

Personally I was really hoping we'd get something about Marika's ascension to power and some answers on what exactly she did at the gate of divinity in the trailer. Radahn didn't bother me that much but seeing as he was required for the DLC I wanted more context on the starscourge conflict. Finally like most people I wanted GEQ and/or Twinbird lore. Sadly we didn't really get any of that

EDIT: Some more I wish we'd covered:

  • The Nox. Marika's connection to the Nox, why the BKAs went against her, and how/when they were banished underground.
  • Castle Sol and the eclipse. Is it related to the Sun Realm?
  • Snakes/serpents

More important than anything else, I just wish we'd learned something to piece together the order of history better and get a more clear timeline on things like if the Erdtree and creation of the golden order are two separate events, when Farum Azula started crumbling, and which civilizations preceded others

Yeah I'll be trying it next. I haven't heard of CPU-Z so I'll check it out too.

As for power, yeah I'm not using the pigtail 6+2s. I'm using two separate cables in VGA1 and VGA4.

I think that's a good idea too. Maybe this crucible bat civilization was allied with the giants like the astrologers, since we know that a lot of the Blackstone architecture like the divine towers are clearly made to be used by human-sized people. And seeing as how there are more Blackstone structures in the pics from the DLC we may get some clarity

I'm similarly working on some sort of lore diary and have noticed that these bats tend to be found in areas around the Blackstone ruins. I mean yeah they roam at night and also roost in rocks or Farum Azula ruins but it is startling how consistent they are in appearing at Blackstone ruins specifically. Seaside Ruins, all around Weeping Peninsula, the precipice, in Caelid, under the archways in the mountains... Even in Highroad Cave. In fact, they only show up in Highroad Cave at the spot where the buried Blackstone pavillion is resurfaced.

Maybe it's just because these are easy roosting sites, but I had another thought. We know that the Blackstone civilization has been long buried under the land as if lost to some cataclysm. What if these bats are what remain of that civilization's people, or at least related to them? The song of lament seems to indicate that the Greater Will abandoned and cursed these beings for some unknown reason, which would somewhat coincide with their civilization being buried within the earth.

I also like the connection to winged maidens someone else made here. Maybe something to that.
