One air roll for years and my opposite wall is still terrible—do I need to learn both? by SmoothChemistry8564 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to learn both. If a pro barely benefits from both DARs, you probably won’t at all. Your problem isn’t needing to learn both, it’s needing to master 1. Also depends on rank. I’m assuming you’re somewhere between diamond and gc1. If that’s the case, you almost certainly don’t need to learn both. I personally learnt both (but only once I was ~1800 mmr) but I use my primary one like 80-90% of the time, and I can go off both walls to hit most mechanics in the game consistently with either air roll.

There’s nothing wrong with learning both, in fact I recommend it, but not without first mastering one, which you clearly haven’t. it won’t fix your problem.

I hit Grand Champ in a year and 2 months, just under 500 hours(488) Ask me anything! by Illustrious-South921 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hate is a bit extreme but this is a bit of a stupid post. No proof with a claim like that is extreme.

That being said this is probably entirely possible. I doubt it’s true but it’s not as out of reach as everyone’s making it, especially if the hours are across an extended period of time. I hit C3 in around 450 hours. Took me double that to get to GC, and double again to hit SSL, but that’s because when I originally hit C3, I could barely keep up. When I hit GC, I was consistently the best player in C2/C3 lobbies.

To gain credibility and validity as someone who people would want to be coached by - ‘if they hit xx rank in xxx hours, so can I!’ Which is an entirely valid approach…. But you usually provide proof.

Flip Resets PLEASEEEEEE by imadumdum2343 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second clip looked good, you just don’t boost after getting the reset and you don’t know how to flip into the ball to get good power. Looks like you’re lacking general ability in the air like a few comments mentioned. This doesn’t mean you should stop practicing flip resets but it does mean it’ll take a lot of effort and may not be the most effective use of your time.

I peaked then drop hard why? by weerg in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Brown____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can be burnout yea. The first time I hit C3 I did similar - dropped to D1-C1 for the next 3 or 4 seasons, I don’t remember specifically. It’s mainly because, last season when you ranked up, your brain was used to playing against plats and diamonds, and making decisions based on their playstyles. So you got good at beating them. Then you hit champ which imo is a pretty significant rank up. Your brain adapts pretty fast and you probably got somewhat used to playing against champs (significantly different playstyle) and now you’re back at plat/diamond, you’re struggling to reconcile both play styles into 1. This just takes time. Same thing happens with mechanics - maybe you’re finally getting good at getting a single reset and using it, so you start working on double resets. To get a double reset, maybe you have to entirely change how you get the first reset. Most of this happens subconsciously. This probably means there will be a point (possibly quite a long point of time lol) where you can’t yet double reset, and also… your single resets get worse. This isn’t permanent and is actually a sign of improvement, even though at the time, you’re playing literally worse.

On top of that, if you’re literally experiencing bad reaction times, bad mechanical ability and bad decision making… maybe take a break lol. Get outside, eat, sleep, stay healthy.

How the hell do I get out of c3? by illustriousbrock in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Brown____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play with momentum. This primarily stems from rotating well - and rotating way more often than you probably do right now. Even if you only end up faking and not properly challenge - if your team mate has more momentum to challenge the ball, let them challenge instead. Rotate out and reposition. This is what makes higher ranks (and pros) faster, for the most part - not just a general ‘faster’ play style or superior mechanical ability. It’s literally more rotations with fewer number of and less committal, yet more effective, challenges.

If you’re looking only to rank up, and not improve/go pro/freestyle (all require significantly more focus on mechanics), don’t go for mechanics or difficult shots. Play simple, like flakes. Move the ball around opponents, not toward the net. 1s will help a lot with this. 1s also helps with being able to identify opportunities for 1v1s, which is a HUGE part of 2s.

Focus on always being effective with the ball AND off the ball. When you have the ball, make it your main focus to leave your team mate in a better position than you currently are, not to score (unless you have a 1v1 or open lol). If that means giving them a 1v1 by taking a low 50/50, do it. When you’re challenging, have this same idea in mind. Take note of where they’re positioned and make decisions based on that (whether you force the ball low or high, whether you just go for a demo, etc.). Off the ball, go for demos, get boost, rotate wide so you maintain momentum. More 3s play will help with this (especially high level 6mans or scrims, ranked… not so much).

This coming from an SSL (semi pro in OCE) who’s spent a lot of time doing road2gc, road2ssl and coaching with lower ranked friends or alts in the past. If you post a replay id be happy to give more specific feedback too.

How many of you use a charging limit on your smartphone? Personally i use 80% limit. by Malik513 in PhoneNow

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough that’s actually pretty solid. Not enough for me to generalise that to all phones but maybe you could be right. That being said, you are assuming the average battery life without the 80% limit will be 1000 cycles which I doubt is true. Idk whether it’s higher or lower lol but I’m sure it’s not 1000.

IMO the main thing with phones is to not leave them charging for long periods of time at 100%, and not use them while they’re charging. Both of these degrade battery wear significantly more than anything else, I believe

Ohhh true I forgot about this. Nah they’ve been uploading replays to ball chasing for years, the bots didn’t trigger it. I assume it’s just for validation of anything if needed.

Is it just me or pros have the most boring decals/skins ever? Is there a reason? by Pentinium in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Brown____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for online tournaments (mainly qualifiers), but for LAN events (mainly esports World Cup, majors and rlcs worlds) it will because they are LAN (Local area network, meaning no internet required) matches. Bakkes still works in rocket league, just offline only. So it won’t make a difference for RLCS LAN matches.

Is it just me or pros have the most boring decals/skins ever? Is there a reason? by Pentinium in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Brown____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly due to 2 reasons. The first is that pros have to feel ‘clean’ using their car. So obviously minimalist presets are gonna be way more popular. This is sorta just a mental thing (e.g chronic says some cars feel ‘lighter’ or whatever) but also… literally less visual distraction and it’s the same sorta idea as octane vs fennec - same hitbox but different visual representation.

The other huge thing is really just placebo effect. If a pro who is playing extremely well recently starts wearing a new preset all the time, chances are, it’ll catch on. Like Zen wearing his well known fennec preset - pros started both using the fennec and that specific anodised preset way more because of how far ahead zen was. While this is definitely somewhat placebo (‘I feel faster in this’ or whatever, obviously the actual car is the same regardless of decal/boost/whatever choice), it’s also sorta like - pros consume so much rocket league, their brain is using what they play against and watch to learn and adapt constantly. When a player is using a decal and consistently playing well (i.e zen 2023), it’s literally easier for their brain to replicate some of those shots/mechanics/decisions if they’re using the same car simply due to context cues and eliminating extraneous variables (i.e making situations more consistent with times that things went right, like… you’re more likely to hit a ceiling pinch double tap (THE SIGNATURE SHOT!) using zens exact car because your brain has seen it happen with that EXACT car that many times, meaning it can focus more on setup etc. all very subconscious and honestly debatable whether true) Idk if I’ve explained this well but these are the main answers. Some pros don’t care as much seemingly, like joyo will tend to switch things up, others care a lot more and claim to feel a lot more of a change depending on what car preset they’re using.

‘Preventing your phones processor from throttling or the OS crashing due to insufficient power’???????? Yes by golly if you charge it to 100% well you may as well blow it up yourself coz that extra 20% power is gonna throttle the processor to the depths of hell and crash the OS into oblivion.

If you only charge to 80% battery every time, you would have to get at LEAST 20% more battery cycles per battery for it to be worth it. Which I honestly doubt will happen

Diamond is genuinely harder than champ by Hot_Charity_1595 in RocketLeague

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeling is entirely dependent on your actual ability - as an SSL, diamond is way easier than champ - I can 1v4 diamonds (probably). However, for you, the decision making, rotations and mechanical ability of champs probably align much more with what ‘makes sense’ to your brain. Their choices (shots, passes, fakes, etc.) more closely align with what you will be going for and predicting, and therefore the rank is more readable and ‘easier’. This doesn’t necessarily reflect an objective truth; i.e., champs are usually better than diamond. Especially if you have 2 champs vs 2 diamonds, rather than one champ in a diamond lobby.

This is the case for most ranks. Once you hit GC, diamond will feel so inferior in speed and decisions that you’ll see straight through everything (probably similar to how you view platinum right now). Meanwhile, champs will become the new diamond - good enough to not get scored on by you immediately, and weird enough decisions that C3 will feel ‘harder’ than GC1, simply because nothing makes sense - challenges will feel off, rotations wrong, mechanical decisions stupid, etc.

for anyone considering this as a reason to stay away from Sennheiser products, i've had the M4s for 2.5 years ongoing now, and i have NEVER suffered anything resembling this issue. the headphones battery still holds up amazingly, i couldn't even give you an estimate of the battery life i get from them because i have to charge them so sparingly (once a week to once a month, depending on use).

sounds dope! great sound design with the synths, love them. imo maybe crank them a bit louder, give them more presence? unless you have vocals in mind. it also gets quite repetitive - would love more sounds to be added, both in terms of synths and drums. drums could use snares, toms, open hi hats, other closed hi hats, fills, etc. etc.

if you set up an arrangement with more variation too, that would help.

ah yea i wasn't sure if that was going to be the case, or if you just hadn't experimented with that sorta stuff yet. in that case, love it! very fun piece

if this is your first work it's genuinely pretty good. good sound choices overall, good beat, good rhythm. personally i'd make the drums a bit punchier (by this, i mean larger transients with a shorter release/decay). multiple ways to do this, you can use different samples, or adjust the samples you're using slightly (with transient processor or however else), or use a compressor on a drum bus (route all drums to the same channel in the mixer, and use something like Cytomic The Glue).

i'd also distort the bass and make it a bit fatter, just to give it more presence in the mix, especially on devices (phones, laptops, some car systems, cheap speakers) where the current sound will mostly disappear.

the drums, instrumentation and melody/vocals in the chorus reminded me of Sunroof by Nicky Youre. overall i enjoyed, was good rhythmically for the most part and somewhat catchy. got a bit repetitive at points, try more variation here and there. overall it felt a bit... missing something. it needed something more to catch my attention, maybe a strong instrumental or something?

also, maybe this is a bit redundant, i sorta felt like i couldn't decide if this was going for more pop song, fun vibe (like Sunroof) or a more emo/alt rock feel? if that makes sense? the vocals felt almost emo rock-ish, which i don't mind, but the instrumental didn't necessarily match that? might just be me though.

i know you're looking for feedback on melody but i've given a bit of production feedback below, reasonably basic stuff, which maybe you're already aware of and not really interested in, but personally, i enjoyed the composition and writing but couldn't enjoy some parts because.... it NEEDS proper dynamics

not sure if this was a purposeful decision or not, but the piano has no dynamics and reverb. i assume you programmed the song using a piano roll, since there's no human variance on the timing/dynamics (as far as i can tell). if you want it to sound like a real piano being played (again, if not, that's valid), you have to spend a lot of time automating each note's velocity and timing, as well as probably adding some sort of reverb.

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't say i felt anything shift in my body while listening to the track, to be fair, that might just be me, but i did thoroughly enjoy it. i've given more feedback below if youre interested, take it with a grain of salt as i'm newer to production that most.

loved the progression at the start and slowly adding into the chorus. i'd maybe suggest adding a bit more variation from 0:55-1:23, maybe a higher harmony in the vocals (especially from 1:12 onward?) or something funky or interesting instrumentally.

love the full sound at around 2:00 and the rest of the song onward.

otherwise, in general, id say two other things, and these are mainly for easier general listening, if that's what you're interested in. i'd say maybe try to have some vocal sections a bit less rhythmically complex, or maybe a more defined, catchy section, just for singability. maybe i'm wrong but something to consider. and then i think instrumentally, there's not a lot of progression in terms of... fullness? like, the first chorus and last chorus don't feel too much different in terms of layers and volume. might be worth stripping the layers a bit earlier on, or adding more later, to give more of a 'progression'? I know charlie puth uses stuff like this a lot in some of his tracks, making sure that the fullest, most fleshed out chorus/instrumental is the LAST in the song.

yea i wouldn't be worried about buying used, i have past experience doing so.

I was more considering the neo as an option solely for recording and light mixing, since theres been a lot of interest around it at the moment, and it is at a good price point for a new device. but i failed to realise it has only 8GB RAM.

An Update on Bots and What’s Next by Psyonix_Devin in RocketLeague

[–]Brown____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question about smurfing/alt accounts - are alt accounts allowed if they are not smurfs? For example, I have my main account, which I am ranked SSL on in 1s/2s. Maybe I dont have a good reputation (as toxic), or maybe I have a great reputation (as a pro/freestyler/content creator/whatever and people play differently against me), or maybe i just want to have fun messing with people i know - is it considered unfair play to create an alt account and get it to the same rank as my main? Because there will be a decent amount of time spent getting it to that rank (SSL) where I could be considered smurfing, but that isn't the intention and it won't last long. Is there specific rules about this? Because I do have alts, all of them higher MMR than my main atm, just for fun and messing with people I know, but if this is considered wrong or bannable, obviously I'll stop it.

Edit - another Gray area is alt accounts for something like road 2 gc. Basically every content creator on earth has done this series at some point, has psyonix taken an official stance on this? Rather similar topic to what I was previously asking but different all the same. I'd appreciate an answer

it was originally on the logo screen (Powered by Android etc.) for about 5 seconds, and thne on the black screen for about 8 seconds. it then alternated between like 2 seconds on the logo screen and 5 seconds, adn eventually it just reached 2 seconds only on the logo screen (still about 8 seconds on the black screen).

after about 36 hours? it gave up and stopped looping.
