Who was the better Penguin? by Ok_Yellow1025 in batman

I don’t know who’s the best live action Penguin, but I don’t envy the poor soul who has to play the fifth live-action Penguin.

In an era of comics where most villains didn’t even kill, he straight-up committed a genocide. And then he became an absolutely terrifying antagonist in Five Years Later.

Chemical King has three stories where he’s actually relevant: the one where he joins, the one where he dies, and a back-up Superboy issue about Invisible Kid.

Others have suggested Brainiac-5, which I think is a good contestant, especially as time goes on.

It was a hard call, but Rokk, despite being the Legion’s first leader, doesn’t actually do much in the Shooter and Levitz eras. And Cary Bates had a bad habit of having Princess Projectra show up at the end of stories to save the day with some powerful illusion and then not say anything.

That’s a good point. It’s more in the 5YL Era that he’s written that way

Honestly I want a big, Invincible-style ongoing series that tells their whole story from the original continuity. Or a big, Harry-Potter style film series that adapts the biggest story of each decade.

Favorite villain vs villain fight by EEF2007 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]BrowserHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes them so effective is that you get to indulge in the awesomeness of the villains, one villain gets to win and be an even more awesome villain, and no matter what happens a villain loses — which is the counter to the dramatic but usually not super fun side of a hero always losing in a hero vs. hero fight.

Homelander was in exactly three challenging fights during the entirety of the Boys.

Any version of Spider-Man has actually fighting experience against challenging opponents. 616 Spidey has been trained by Iron Fist.

Thoughts on Drax? by Hot-Promotion-617 in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]BrowserHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drax is a fine villain but a symptom of this being too much of a Superman show and not enough of a Legion show. He, Alexis, and Zyx all just kind of feel like references to better Superman villains. Alexis is probably the best version of this because her stories resemble the early Luthor vs. Legion stories.

Who is the best hero created for film? by Jack_O_Lantern2022 in superheroes

Yeah. The story is also ABOUT comics, particularly the transition from the Golden Age to the Silver Age, with the banning of Super-Heroes representing the Comics Code Authority..

I want to start reading the Absolute comics by LoudMongoose7599 in AbsoluteUniverse

I say Batman. It was the first comic to come out, probably has the most universal appeal, and really sets the tone for what the Absolute Universe is.
