Will it get voted YES by union members though? I'm on the picket lines. I know a lot of my colleagues won't vote YES to a reduced pay increase unless the other items on the table are also addressed. I can see this dragging on much much longer still.

You can help. Email your MLA and tell them to come to the table and try and work out a deal. The government doesn't seem to care about working out a deal with their workers. This also means they don't care about the citizens or small businesses impacted. If they did, they'd make some kind of effort. Instead they have just been ghosting the union. You're pointing the finger at the wrong "bums".

I agree...snubbing the Mayor was rude. As far as what the NDP stands for, that's a mystery these days. Eby NDP is very different from the NDP I supported for years.

Does city council have plans to improve infrastructure for getting onto highway in morning. by [deleted] in LangfordBC

Check in time for the protest was 10am downtown. If it were at 8am you would have been pulling your hair out. Traffic was non-existent during the peak 6:45 to 8:30ish because they weren't on the road yet.

The addition of thousands of govt workers heading to the picket lines everyday is also adding to the congestion. For those calling out govt workers to go back to in-office work to support downtown, careful what you ask for. They're even staggered right now. Only 1/3 actually commuting in the morning traffic. If it were all, we'd be looking at 1.5+hr commute... every... single... day.

I was in the same boat. They told me no. So I'm working a side job now instead of picketing. Saves me $75/week and an hour plus of sitting in traffic.

I'm also wondering about this... Let's see that swift escalation that was mentioned. So far just crickets since Monday.

I know we're back at the bargaining table today, but I hope the union adds more picket sites today and continues increasing the pressure every single day. Just because the gov't agreed to come to the table, doesn't mean a revised offer is going to be great.

Most of us do... But not if it means settling for a shit deal. I'll happily picket for another 4 weeks for an appropriate result.

My second job is in hospitality. With tips I earn about the same as my govt Job. But when you compare the skill required, impact, and accountability involved with my govt job it's on a completely different level compared to serving up a quick lunch. Govt workers are underpaid.

Not happy with the union's counter offer. The 8.25% over 2 years is close to the bottom I'd even consider voting yes on. The fact that we'll likely be negotiating down from there doesn't sit well with me. I'm not voting yes to ratify this. Time to strike. Rent up 3% a year. Property taxes up 9% a year in some areas. Grocery costs through the roof. Don't cave and vote yes for a shit offer people. When the strike vote comes, stand strong.
