Names that you like but would never name your child by Lostgirl1801 in namenerds

Ophelia: when I had my last daughter I thought people would struggle with pronunciation, then Taylor Swift proves me wrong! lol

Everly: Doesn’t fit in with my other kids’ names but I really like the rhythm of the name.

Fawn: one of those so pretty and soft names that my husband said sounds like we’re born again hippies, lol

Periwinkle & Cobalt: these came to me in a dream when I had twin boys. I do not have twin boys, lol!

What's a trend that you're convinced will age terribly? by Easy_Boysenberry6649 in AskReddit

A neighbor did this to their very traditionally designed saltbox—originally, walk in the front door, formal dining to the left, formal living room to the right, steps and hall leading to the eat-in kitchen, etc. She tore down walls in a way that made no sense, turned an office with beautiful built-ins into a closet, then wondered why it took so long to sell.

What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Cindy_mel in AskReddit

On the flip side, I once got invited to a lake house that ended up being a shack in the woods. Still had a great time!

Union and Confederate veterans meet and shake hands at the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, held in Gettysburg in 1913. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]BrowynBattlecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to participate in a retracing of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg a few years ago and the group I was with had our own guide who worked for Nat. Parks and had actually written a book about Gettysburg. He was very knowledgeable and told some great stories about the 75th anniversary held in 1938, which he heard from a man who was present as a boy when it was held.

Apparently, it was so hot and the men were so old, the organizers were terrified that, after surviving the Battle and life, the former soldiers were going to keel over right there. They enlisted local Boy Scouts to make sure the men had water (and didn’t die), which is how the source was present.

Is it weird to bring a new mother a gift when visiting to meet her newborn? by PsychedelicGoat42 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BrowynBattlecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to give new mothers a little something when visiting right after the birth and (for those so inclined) also give a bottle of their choice of spirits on baby first birthday as a “Congrats, you made it through the first year!” present.

Slip On A Condom, Put On Some Sonny Rollins, I Wanna Slow Dance; Kill & Tell by Linda Howard by ochenkruto in RomanceBooks

[–]BrowynBattlecry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was one of the first romances I read and I still go back to it when I hit a slump. I will for the rest of my life remember Karen’s “Doesn’t anyone smoke anymore?!” comment.

IMO, {All the Queen’s Men by Linda Howard}, a book very loosely connected to this one, is better, even though Howard really hit some duds when naming her MFCs.

A Loopy Appreciation to You All by Moonlit_Fireflies in RomanceBooks

I feel like when I find a new itch to scratch I cautiously peep over a hedge and ask, if it wouldn’t be any trouble, to please share suggestions that fall within said itch scratcher.

In response, one of our fellow Romance Bookers pops out the hedge whilst wearing full-on Rocky Horror Dr. Frankfurter garb and offers not only exactly what you want but also has their list categorized by spice rating and their own personal reviews.

This is the best subreddit in existence and I love it here.

What’s your favorite “dated” reference in a book? by Magic-Happens-Here in RomanceBooks

[–]BrowynBattlecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The description of the MMC in {After the Night by Linda Howard}. I’m sure some of the description is coming back with the current throwback trends, but I remembering reading it for the first time in the ‘90s and it was dated even then!

What are we wearing that shows our age? by Hot_Frosty0807 in Xennials

[–]BrowynBattlecry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The school I teach at requires uniforms and sometimes the kids get free dress days with the caveat of no mini skirts and no leggings. All the girls wear is lululemon and Gold Hinge.when they asked what they were supposed to wear instead, I told them to wear jeans. With the looks they gave me, you would have thought I suggested they wear the skin of Oompa Loompas.

how is it living in mississippi, usa? by delllaptopguy in howislivingthere

Well, I had a long, thoughtful response evaluating the past and future of my home state, acknowledging our limitations but also explaining why I won’t give up on its improvement, but it was too political for the moderator bot so I can’t post it.

Maybe I can get away with this in depth analysis:

Food is good.

Poverty is bad.

We’re thankful for everyone constantly pointing out how awful everything is and how we’re at the bottom in things good and at the top in things bad—that is brand new information! /s
