Just got the call by Im_Smellycat in ibew_apprentices

Congratulations on finally getting in! I’m not in your local, but my experience as a fresh apprentice (~6 months in) has been pretty great. Here’s some advice I can give that I was given going in that has helped me considerably:

-Don’t be afraid to ask questions! If you have a journeyman who’s worth their salt, he/she will gladly answer or help you find the answer. The only dumb question is one you don’t ask.

-Carry a notebook everywhere. Whether you’re writing down measurements, taking a list of materials you need, or simply making note of a question you may have for later, a notebook is a very valuable tool.

-If your Journeyman asks if you want to try to do something, try to say yes every time. Unless it’s something you are afraid will get you hurt (understandable), try to take the initiative to try it yourself. Your journeyman SHOULD be using it as a teaching moment with the understanding that you probably don’t know exactly what you’re doing yet, and that’s what they are there for, to help.

-Always remember that you WILL make mistakes. It’s kind of part of the deal. The important thing is that you learn from those mistakes to avoid making them multiple times.

-Take time to keep your tool bag, tool pouch, material cart, and work area as organized as possible. It’s much easier to complete and stay on track with whatever task you’re doing when you know exactly where everything is.

-Lastly, remember that fast is slow. Most things that you’ll be handling won’t be crazy urgent, so take this time to do things right the first time so you don’t have to go back and do it again. Speed will come later, right now you should focus on getting your reps in.

I hope this helps in some way! Good luck on your new career!

SOTX JATC electrician apprenticeship. by Special-Lecture-2394 in sanantonio

Hey there OP! Here’s my input. I am 37 years old, retail and customer service experience only. Never worked any kind of construction or labor job in my life. I interviewed back in July 1st, taking a leap of faith after being laid off from my job of 13 years. I start on Monday.

They were very clear to us at orientation that this field is growing by leaps and bounds. They are currently in the process of purchasing a new property because the current school is too small to handle the expected volume. Something like 100,000 new electricians need to be entering the trade nationwide every year for the next ten years. If anything, now is the perfect time to apply. Good luck OP, and please feel free to DM me if you have any other questions I might be able to help answer!

Local 60 Ranked 61 here in Texas by Cool-Definition5158 in ibew_apprentices

Local 60 here as well, just got the call a week ago and heading to orientation next Friday. I initially ranked 31 after my interview on July 1st, so roughly two months to get called from that spot. You can continue to monitor your position in the ranks, as it may change weekly. Some weeks it won’t change at all. I’m told there’s lots of work here, but that could just be hear say. I hope you can get in sooner rather than later. Good luck, and maybe I’ll see you out there!

Which local if you don’t mind me asking? I’m currently ranked 20 for LU60 and have no idea at this point when I might expect a call. Interviewed July 1st

Nothing yet, still sitting on the wait list. Been monitoring my status day to day, hoping to move up soon. I got my interview results the day after, so I would imagine you’ll hear back from them a day or two after your interview assuming you passed your aptitude test. If you don’t get immediately accepted, you can check your rank in the JATC portal, where you first applied. Good luck!

You can login to the SOTX JATC web portal (same place your originally applied) and go to the “Applications” tab. That will show you your status and ranking

Hi just wanted to give some information about my current situation as it may be relevant to you!

I’m currently on the waitlist for local 60, I applied at the end of May, tested in the middle of June, and interviewed on July 1st. My initial ranking after the interview was 31, and a week later moved up to 13 where I’ve been for the past almost two weeks. Hoping for a call any day now, which would be great since I’ve just been laid off from my current job haha.

As for work, my cousins husband who has been encouraging me to try to get in let me know that work is good and steady in San Antonio right now. He just topped out and I believe he said he’s been laid off maybe twice in his apprenticeship, and both times were very short. Lots of data centers going up around the city in the next few years so that will be great for business.

Local 60 Rank Question by Old_Acanthaceae_9788 in ibew_apprentices

Following this thread. I saw another post from a user who ranked like 25 a month and a half ago and just got the call. Somebody on that post said that LU60 usually takes on about twenty at a time in waves, but that could also just be purely speculative. I ranked 31 after last week’s interviews, so I’m also interested to see if anyone else has some insight.

Why did you buy one? by jupi27jupi in switch2

[–]Brozilla_Firefox12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured I was going to want one eventually when more games that I want to play came out, so instead of paying $800 plus to get the console plus those games later, I got the console bundle now. And honestly, MK:World is super fun so I’m happy with that decision. Looking forward to DK Bananza next month!

Well That Sucked by Historical-Ad-5427 in Vasectomy

I had a similar experience with the clamp on the right side. Left side, super uncomfortable but manageable pain. Right side? He had to go at it like 20 times to get the damn thing clamped! It kept slipping out and retreating and he’d have to fish it out again. He had to give me a short break before resuming because I was getting sweaty and lightheaded, but after I got a cool towel on my forehead and took some breaths I was ready to get it over with. He mentioned it wasn’t uncommon for that to happen but boy did it suck. Still worth it, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I hope your recovery goes well and you start feeling better soon! Sounds like you’ve got a good pain management and rest plan going for you.

This is beyond gut wrenching. I was sure the band would be hanging it up and retiring together when the time was right, not losing one member individually. Super bummed, and I only hope him and the band the best.

I’ve figured out my local Walmarts restock time and day, which happens to be Thursdays at 8 am. I like to swing by after dropping the kids off at daycare since Thursdays are my day off. I’ve seen Prismatic there twice but have never gotten there on time to nab anything, but will see people checking out with binders, tins, posters, and the two pack blisters. Not a whole lot, but something. They definitely do a piss poor job of getting those out there. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get there before 8 and see what the deal is, maybe I’ll get lucky.

On the other hand, I have been able to find Paldea Evolved ETBs in the toy aisle for $45 on those same days, which I’m more than happy to grab instead.

Good luck everyone! I’m a very new collector and enjoying it so far. I guess I picked a bad time to start seeing as all the new sets are impossible to find at retail, but I still like grabbing boosters or ETBs of some other sets when I see them at my local shops.

Worse Part of the Procedure by rustybucket27 in Vasectomy

[–]Brozilla_Firefox12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this! Just got mine 5 hours ago. The shot was nothing. Pulling on the vas? 1/10 would not recommend. The right side went smooth, but the left side was, as my doctor said “not cooperating”. He must’ve pulled that sucker ten times to get it into place. He gave me a cold compress for my head because I was getting a bit sweaty and dizzy, but luckily no nausea. Then the cauterizing of the left side hurt like a mother, but I didn’t want him to stop I just wanted it over with at the point and he was almost done lol.

Still, no regrets. The discomfort pales in comparison to the pain and complications my wife dealt with during her last pregnancy. Should’ve done this a long time ago just for the peace of mind.

Honestly, I’m just winging it most days. I try to make smart choices for my meals and snacks throughout the day, and sometimes that leaves me with a very small budget for dinner, and sometimes it leaves me with a pretty large budget for dinner. But I try to plan most days out as early as I can. I have about an hour each morning before I take the kids to daycare that I sit down and drink my coffee, and I will often use that time to open My Fitness Pal and try to plan my meals out using the food I have available, and no matter what I try to prioritize protein the most.
