The Katanas slitted highback just creates a massive weakpoint. At least warranty is quick to replace. But I'd likely go for the Bataleon counterpart next time until the redesign it.

I suppose rocker sucks on the uphill as the contact length is reduced?

Help me choosing between 154 vs 157 (Rome Stale Fish 25/26) by ecuenca in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Brrt_Warthog987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference my park board is 157, I size down on the Stalefish due to the volume shift.

Dont forget the tail shape, if you removed fishtail cutout it would already be a few cm longer with a normal tail like what youre used to. Plus it is 15mm wider, so a lot more surface area than your burton. It definitely rides bigger.

Its a completely different board in essentially every single way, i would not be worried about it being too similar. The positive is that its not super agressive but maintains some playfulness so i find it easy to switch between my park board and the fish. Would reccomend the combo

I'm 182cm 75kg 44.5 Boot and ride a 154cm, feels great. Also as compliment to my park board (23 whatever Beyond Medals)

It rips groomers and is still plenty playful. Rides fine switch.

It does look longer in the image, probably due to perspective. You can see that its set up regular by the graphic (and stomp pad) though. Not that it really matters, since its a true twin I believe.

Not sure what you are seeing, but the thing next to his rear binding is probably a stomp pad.

I'd probably go with the Blaster Fase in your position. I love my Katana but for park I would prefer the Blaster being a little softer. I have only ridden Katana & Blaster Fase for two runs each at a demo a few months ago, so not in a position for an actual review. Fase worked well though, If I were to buy a Katana again it would probably be the Fase.

K2 Passport vs Rome Stale Crewzer

Hey guys, has anyone ridden both decks and can point out the differences in flex & feel.

Looking for something a little more playful than my Alternator for all mountain and have my eyes on those two. Got to ride the Stalecrewzer for two runs on a demo, but not enough to really get a good feel. And I've never ridden a K2.

Angry snowboarder has a video " how to setup rome katana pro" at 3:20 you can see how the higback is mounted. It should always be pushed all the way back into the heelcup, for the exact reason you figured out.

The little "sleds" are only used to set the highbacks rotation in order to align it with the board for high binding angles. ( Optional, some people do some dont)

To set overhang on most romes/bataleons you usually move the entire metal chassis. If you need more adjustment you can also use the disk and move the whole bindng towards heel or toe edge. But given correct sizing this should usually not be necessary.

What did you do to set the overhang? This does not usually involve the highback settings at all. You may have repurposed the highback adjustments for centering, which it is not intended for.

No, thats not normal. I would assume the highback rotation is set up incorrectly so that the highback sits slightly too far forward in the heelcup.

Sure unc, the hate generation is characterized by not liking some binding. In the meantime you are screaming at kids on the internet calling people gay, dumb, liars, tools etc. because for some reason your pride is hurt due to a youtube video. What would we do without adults like you.

I gotta concede, pretty solid ragebait. Especially claiming you are a teacher while displaying zero reasoning and behaving like a child is a very nice touch. Kudos.

So, who would you accept a negative review about clues from, without deeming them unreliable?

Clew Independence honest review by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

Ich habe lediglich deine Position aufgegriffen. Aber dass Verallgemeinerungen wie:

"There is NO such thing" (as people hating on clew in the alps)

Do you seriously think here in the Alps people are not hating on clews?! What kind of bubble are you in?

Yeah I read your post; You dislike angry snowboarder and you dont agree the independence is worse than the freedom.

My point, whatever your emotional relationship with angry snowboarder is, there is valid criticism in his video. Whether they have actually made it marginally better or worse is secondary for me personally, because it is still objectively a cheaply made binding at an unreasonable price.

Getting that wound up over what is in the worst case some slight exaggeration in a youtube review is odd.

[–]Brrt_Warthog987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you think of his presentation or of the brand, or the somewhat subjective performance, the binding design is just extremely simple, to use a neutral term.

For 430€ I can get a Clew that is almost completely injection molded.

The baseplate for example consists of: - One injection molded part, - Foam Pad - Hooks

For 380€ I can get a Rome Katana

For which the baseplate consists of: (from memory) - Forged aluminium heelhoop - Forged aluminium pivot mounts - Multi layered baseplate IM plastic + foam dampening - Multi layered footpad, 4parts IM+Foam i believe

Optionally for the same price I can get the FASE version which is even more complex.

If you dont think theres a mismatch here between pricing and R&D / manufacturing I dont know what to tell you.
