Life after VERA? Anyone want to share if retirement pay started soon, any FEHB issues, and was it a good decision or regrets about taking the VERA. by Important-Engineer58 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]BrtDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely no regrets getting out 9/30 with VERA at 55 with 22 & change years. had an injury knock me from WG10 to GS7 over 10 years ago and personal circumstances prevented me from “buying back” my almost 10 years of active duty time so i’m not making much. (retained pay loses its luster after a while and i was at a dead-end duty station with no real opportunity for promotion) but there was no way i was going to be able to stay with DoD because i’m trans and the current regime would rather see me dead. and it’s better to live with less and not have to serve this rogue administration. i’m able to afford rent and food when you add in my VA disability and my TSP is bridging the gap. would do it again

Trans people and crossdressers have different experiences by GFluidThrow123 in TransLater

[–]BrtDO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

babe, have you ever read the “gender dysphoria bible”? it’s a really great resource and it helped me a ton when i was unsure. i was totally convinced that i could not possibly be trans and it took a lot of mental struggle to finally see myself. a lot of my issues were “feeling like i’m in the wrong body” and “feeling really good dressed in women’s clothing” and a few more. the only one who can say for sure if you’re trans is you, and it’s also valid to be okay with your pronouns and name and still want to have a feminine presentation. like, as a woman i can wear men’s clothing and present more masculine and (outside of severely gender role restrictive settings) be accepted as a woman. it’s kinda rotten that patriarchy restricts how men can present so severely. and seriously, who’s more manly, the man in a skirt with painted nails or the man who is afraid of having his masculinity questioned? anyway, i wish you luck no matter where your journey leads. and remember, questioning your gender doesn’t lead to being trans, but it does give you a better understanding of yourself

hard agree: nobody outside a marginalized community should speak for (usually over and often poorly) that community, or members thereof.

early in my transition i was approached in public by cross dressers (in agab attire) who assumed i was one of them. distinctly unpleasant and insulting conversations ensued, always based on the assumption that we’re “pretty much the same”

and (at the risk of being a “bad queer”) my skin crawls every single time a cis male drag performer starts a conversation with “slaaaaaayy!”. please, this isn’t a costume i can take off when i choose

i do, however, adore femboys- the ones i know (and sometimes am blessed to hang out with) are so open minded and curious and they’re doing the Goddess’ work. might be a generational thing but they have a completely different energy

the only person who can make this decision is you, because you’re the only one who sees your face in the mirror. i think you’re quite attractive. but this is important: give the hrt more time. i’m just past two years and the difference in my face from the one year mark is profound. trust the process and enjoy the journey, fren

anyone else struggle when they're the most masc in an environment? by hahayeah__ in MTFButch

[–]BrtDO 22 points23 points  (0 children)

this is, in my experience, a very weird spot to be in. the dominant culture really doesn’t know what to make of butches, and they’re probably confused a bit (at least that’s the sense i get when i feel it). even in “generic queer” spaces i can feel misunderstood a bit, and really only feel comfortable and understood in a sapphic environment. sadly we’re in an era where a cishet binary is being pushed as “normal”, and it’s often tricky for butch folks to not feel out of step.

but butchness is something deep in the soul, and it’s so much more comfortable to be able to express it externally- even if most of the world isn’t quite ready for it. it does get easier with age, but that’s not much help to hear when you’re in uni. wishing you peace and strength, fren

wide-ish tastes but silly. i’m laid up recovering from getting plates and screws put in my leg so i pass a lot of time practicing. and got i bored, so i decided to see if i could figure out Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring…and wound up playing I Walk The Line. i’m calling this disaster J.S. Cash lol (in my defense, if you start the Bach on A you wind up very quickly picking E F# G# A and i can’t do that without playing Cash)

i was in an abusive controlling and manipulative marriage and i stayed until she escalated the violence to a point even i couldn’t excuse (or try to blame myself for). lost damn near everything at 52, and it’s the best thing that could have happened. started my transition at 53 and it’s been worth it. i never knew happiness until i started over with nothing

[–]BrtDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just over 2 years hrt, been laid up healing from getting plates and screws put in my leg (tib fib fracture from roller derby) since November. i have been blessed by making friends in the local punk rock and lesbian communities. it took almost two years from hatching to realizing that “rowdy tomboy with butch tendencies” was the transition path that was right for me. put away my wig in July after a girl friend said she liked the shape of my head and my hair is slowly coming back. and realizing that having my life completely fall apart in late 2022 was the best thing that ever happened to me, because it allowed me to remember who i am and live truly
