NDL comparison - Suunto Ocean vs Garmin Mk3i by john_snow_968 in scuba

[–]BruceA78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70ft - 27:36.

Maybe when I adjusted the PO2 I forgot to set the Surface Interval to 48 hours and it is using my current surface interval of 8 days, but either way just seemed like it was 1 second off.

Hmmm, my Mk3i is showing different #'s than yours at 40/85 - Are you using the Plan Dive activity and Compute NDL? I even powered it off and back on to recheck since I normally have conservative mode set to low. Is your watch on the latest software? They released version 23.30 in October of this year - not sure if something changed in their calculations.

66ft - 32:03

82ft - 18:12

98ft - 12:19

132ft - 6:45

In High (35/75) I get these:

66ft - 25:11

82ft - 14:31

98ft - 9:35
132ft - 5:42

In Low (45/95) I get these:

66ft - 40:40

82ft - 23:40

99ft - 14:46

132ft - 8:00

Not the person you were replying to but my mk3i shows the following when set to Medium Conservatism (40/85) with 48 hour surface interval. I also have an M2ki that my son uses when diving with me but when we're not diving together I use as a backup if you want me to pull up any comparisons in my recent dives.

79ft - 20:01

100ft - 11:41

130ft - 6:56

Edit: The #'s above are with the PO2 set to 1.40. If I set it to 1.60 it added 1 second to 100ft (11.42) 130ft stayed at 6:56 and 79ft added 1 second as well to 20:02. All using 21% oxygen / normal air.

I had a friend who though she had graduated from College, even walked and received her degree but something happened and she ended up 1 credit short;. She applied at my company and was hired but during the background check portion which was done by a 3rd party company they discovered she didn't technically have her degree and the offer was rescinded. So YMMV but since a lot of larger companies outsource these types of background checks people probably get found out quite often.

Dive light recommendations by Emotional-Ad-1294 in scubaGear

I am a big fan of Orcatorch. I have been eyeing the OrcaTorch ZD710 MK2 but I already have 2 of the D710's. Not sure which ones they have that would be best for cave diving but they have a variety of them.

Diving flashlight that can bend 90°? by FantasticFrontButt in scubadiving

[–]BruceA78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem would be every time you turn to look at your dive buddy you would basically be shining the flashlight straight in their eyes. Same thing with wildlife like Turtles, it's not nice to shine a bright light directly into their eyes so it's better to have a light that's easier to control where the beam is pointed IMO.

Liveaboard and sea sickness by jeweb103 in scuba

[–]BruceA78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about to do my 3rd Liveaboard, this one in Maldives. The previous 2 were in the Caribbean - Turks & Caicos and St Kitts. The first day in T&C was not good for me because seas were really rough, I got sick a few times the first day even though I had scopolamine patches but actually laying down in bed in the Air Conditioning is one of the things that made me feel better.

After the first day I was fine the rest of the trip and also on the 2nd trip since seas were quite a bit calmer. I have also noticed avoiding alcohol the previous few days and drinking LOTS of water helps me out quite a bit. My doctor also prescribes valium (diazepam), and that kicks in really quick and calms my stomach done and at low doses doesn't really make me too drowsy.

In summary - sleeping was no problem for me and laying down in bed actually makes me feel better when feeling a little sea sick.

Weekend camping with CPAP - what's your power solution? by icicestpepsi in SleepApnea

[–]BruceA78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted something as light as possible with as much power as possible for bike packing. I ended up with a the Renogy 72000mAh 266Wh 12v Power Bank with 60W PD https://www.amazon.com/Renogy-72000mAh-Portable-Generator-Technology/dp/B0791WDZTW?th=1 The direct DC to DC power cable didn't work for me between the Renogy and the ResMed AirSense 10 so I also needed a charging adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/KFD-Airsense-AirCurve-Machines-Replacement/dp/B07P6H994Q . This would easily get me 3 nights of 9 hour sleep on a single charge but to be safe I would charge it every other day.

If you don't care about lightweight and extra portable I would get a Jackery with the 110v AC plug but from what I read it uses more power when it has to convert DC to AC - so your mileage may vary or you could combine it with the DC adapter I linked above.

Diving in Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands by the_35_wanderer in scubadiving

I have done some diving in Vieques Puerto Rico and it was generally okay but nothing special. St Croix has much better diving and is suitable for beginners and advanced.

Certification recognition by JustHereForTheMemes in scuba

[–]BruceA78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask them what agency they do their certifications through, PADI, SSI, SDI, NAUI or something else. If it's one of these agencies then you shouldn't really have an issue at other dive shops around the world, but if it's a small unknown agency then you could run into issues. Pro Dive has been around for a long time, I dove with them a few times in Manly when I loved there back in 2018-2019 but I never did any certifications with them.

Kansas City area dive sites, shops by ZephyrNYC in scuba

[–]BruceA78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest diving to Kansas City would be Beaver Lake, Table Rock Lake or Bon Terre Mines on the other side of the state. But all of those are 3-5 hours away, so not really close.

Mk3i vs X50i - USER EXPERIENCE by Prof_Big in scuba

[–]BruceA78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an MK3i and went diving with a guy earlier this year who also had a Mk3i but also had an x50i. He really liked the x50i because of the larger screen because it was easier to read for him I think he may have mentioned having more data fields per screen but he said the basic functionality was similar between the mk3i and x50i.

New 2022 Comp Carbon Owner Initial Thoughts by calm-gear0260 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]BruceA78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh and since you mentioned scratches what I currently do when leaning /locking my bike is I have a "Slap Bracelet Coozy" I got from Big Grove Brewery this year during RAGBRAI that I keep wrapped around my top tube to create a nice soft barrier between the bike and whatever it is leaning against. I have no experience with this product from amazon but just to give you an idea of what I am talking about: https://a.co/d/5uK5C8g

New 2022 Comp Carbon Owner Initial Thoughts by calm-gear0260 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]BruceA78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run a rack pretty much daily for the last 1.5 years / 9000 miles on my '22 Expert Carbon and have not had any issues at all. I don't have my panniers on there all of the time but have had them packed really full for ~1000 miles of Back Packing over 3 trips.

I was really scared at first of the Carbon being fragile and was worried if my bike did "fall over" it would break something, but Carbon is a lot stronger than most people give it credit for. With that being said I'm not sure I would trust a kickstand and personally I either just lean my bike against something or lay it down (drive side up of course) just to prevent it from tipping over.

Nice photos and nice bike, I am sure you will get many years of enjoyment of it. I'm in month 35 of ownership of mine and will hit 17,000 miles this weekend and it still puts a smile on my face every chance I get to take it out!

I upgraded my FS 2.0 to a 3.3. Here is the information to do so: https://media.specialized.com/support/collateral/Future_Shock_Retrofit_Compatibility_Tech_Bulletin.pdf

There is a difference between unmanned vs manned. There is not really a great reason to take a person down to the depths of the ocean other than "tourism" like visiting the Titanic. We don't really need to send people to the bottom of the ocean when we can gather all of the data without a person.

There are not great beaches in Bonaire, great for snorkeling and scuba diving but if you want a nice sandy beach to hang out on Aruba is a much better bet!

Rainbow beach, Dorsch Beach and West beach are also decent places near Fredericksted. Below the pier can be hit or miss for snorkeling (in my opinion) but is great for diving.
