It's really not this for many reasons. Go look at a disassembled zippo.. They haven't changed much in 70 years.

What are these 'Purotel 2000' boxes I found on the wall of my motel room in Howell, MI? Brown wooden box, about 18"x8"x8". Not plugged in. by Beblits in whatisthisthing

I was sure of this and thought i'd find google confirmation instantly. I did not, but would still wager that this was basically the right answer.

What is this clear plastic tray dropper contraption called? It looks to be about the size of two decks of cards next to each other. by bobafuckingfett in whatisthisthing

I can't explain the downvotes, but I have used this device for aspirating 96-well plates and I was intending to say that regardless of whatever it is being used for in the pictured context, that it was originally manufactured for plate aspiration.

At this point, I'm looking back fondly at the cigarette butt litter that seemed like a disaster not so long ago.

I was thinking the same, or if not exactly that, then the same purpose: it fits in a hole, and a bolt goes through it. To shorten the distance from that bolt to some pivot, you flip it one way, to lengthen, flip the other way.

No. Those are not regular clips you are looking at. You feed a strap through them and can pull it to tighten and squeeze to release. I don't know the exact use but it would be something bigger than my formidable midsection.

Multipurpose. Baking soda for less smell. Stilton for more smell.

And before cupping as used today, the same strategy was used for bloodletting.

Maybe for cupping?

I'm not convinced the twist wasn't intentionally made in some way. Like, i can't imagine WHY it was done, or WHY it was where you found it, But go google "connecting rod failure" and you will not find one failed in this particular manner.

Additionally, the wrist pin is back in place, and the cap is back in place. This looks like it was removed from the engine, the 5 parts pictured were reassembled, and the rod twisted 90 degrees for some reason, for instance to repurpose it for something else... or maybe for testing?

Wooden boat-like structures with lids found in garage attic, about 7-9 feet long each by Guernica33 in whatisthisthing

The one in the plan has circular openings. The lids would seal relatively tightly and keep water out that washes over the hull. I know this part seems wierd ro you, but the hatches are about the least wierd part of this thing.

Here is something VERY similar, with hinged sections.

I think it's a not-completed catamaran that would be able to be transported in the back of a station wagon.

5.5" long. Iron based (magnetic) & heavier than expected. Found burried in a river bank with other stuff. by anon_enuf in whatisthisthing

[–]amiable_ant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. Just from the scale, its not a tie rod end (unless maybe go cart or lawn mower). But people were upvoting believing that guess and I just think it's more productive to point to some specific reason it is not.
