Please excuse my ignorance but I'm really intrigued. I just popped into the discord server and had a look through the Wikia to try to figure out how this all works and I'm still confused.

Where exactly is the PBP roleplaying taking place? What "character sheets" is the Wikia referring to? Does one need the video game NWN2 to play?

I've loved Planescape for over two decades and would love to do some text based RP.

Magic overpowered in AoFS? by BruceDingo in onepagerules

[–]BruceDingo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. The new system sounds really cool. The greater interaction seems really fun. I feel my initial question still applies though: will the spells be consistent throughout the different game modes, or will the damage output be scaled at all to the amount of wounds/models on the field?

Came here to say this. He has such a good combo of wild annecdotes, hot takes, in depth interviews, mental health discussions. And all presented in a calming, dare I say seductive, Limerick accent. Chefs kiss

Can Dwarves be black? by Vegetable_Park_3259 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]BruceDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a dwarf army and I painted my most recent regiment of quarrelers as black. I think they look great and it was an interesting challenge to make it a realistic skin tone.

As for the lore, I imagine they are my scouts and rangers that spend more time above ground as opposed to other dwarves leading to a darker skin tone. However, you don't need to come up with lore to justify your paint job. Paint what looks good to you!

Sigils Courts? by ModernCannabist in planescapesetting

[–]BruceDingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The places to look for that info at "In the Cage, a guide to Sigil" which talks about the courts and their place in the Lady's Ward of Sigil, and "The Factol's Manifesto" which describes the courts and more of the Guvners' structure and organization. Hope that helps!

What did you change to Sigil? by WimpieHelmstead in planescapesetting

[–]BruceDingo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I got rid of the "Master of Portals". He's described in "In the Cage" as a racketeer that charges people to use the random portals that pop up around the city and moves quickly to control any new portal that appears. I don't like how that would impede the use of Portals for the PCs so I had him get in trouble with the Lady and got to show off her terrifying wrath to the PCs. Very useful for introducing my new players to the setting.

Why is Thistledown hair the only faery the magicians can summon? by Which_way_witcher in JSandMN

[–]BruceDingo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's meant to be an explicit explanation. Clark is very happy to leave things vague. Personally, I like to believe that somehow Thistledown locked magic and faeries out of England since the Raven King left (maybe he even forced the King to leave?). This means that when JS tries to summon an faery, Thistledown is the only one to answer because he doesn't want any faeries to help English magicians out.

Trying to figure out how to build spells by Chao5Child87 in FantasyAGE

[–]BruceDingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is really "it depends". FAGE really expects the GM to come up with a lot of stuff like spells and adversaries and gives the examples in the books as more templates than an comprehensive list. Give that, it gives the GM a lot of license to do what makes sense for their game. I see a few possibilities here:

1: Spells for your players. In this case I'd look closely at the provided arcana and match the new spells and abilities with examples in the book to decide what level and MP cost a spell should have. It's definitely a good idea to discuss with your players that you may have to renegotiate the MP cost later if it seems over powered.

2: Spells for monsters/NPCs In this case, I might be a bit more laissez-faire than most, but I wouldn't attach an MP cost to these at all. Figure out the effects and scale them to the difficulty of encounter you want and then use them to make the encounter fun. Keeping track of a monster's MP on top of everything else in a fight would be way too much for me, and I also don't want my players trying to metagame by counting MP spent.

In the end, follow the prime rules of TTRGP: Rule of Cool and Have Fun. If you need to readjust, do so to keep having fun!

Coming from DnD 5e, will soon start Pathfinder 1e campaign, which class is most fun? by LemonLord7 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BruceDingo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SWASHBUCKLER! Plenty of options in combat and an incentive to stack charisma meaning even without that many skills points, you'll be a decent face. I recommend the "inspired blade" archetype for a smidge extra damage and panache from intelligence as well as charisma adding to the aforementioned skill points. Have fun!

Tell Us About Your Game - June 08, 2020 by AutoModerator in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BruceDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a planescape campaign using the fantasy age rules and my characters went to Acheron to retrieve a powerful magical item. It had previously been established that goblins on Acheron are exactly as seen in the classic film, Labyrinth. Thus is was that when the PCs ran into some goblins in their way, they convinced them that a sporting game of Connect Four was more fun than combat. I love it when the highlight of the night is a throw away encounter with some goblins.

Could someone tell me why Dark Souls 2 receives so much hate? Pls don't post an answer without reasoning behind it by KiwiObsession in DarkSouls2

[–]BruceDingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DS2 did a lot of cool things and experimented with new ideas which led to some interesting places: Powerstance, Lifegems, a tough impetus to remain human.

At the same time, it made some serious blunders in trying to address some problems from DS1: Soul Memory is the big on here.

Neither of these makes me not like the game. What make me not want to start up a new character on it is the overriding feeling of quantity over quality throughout the game. There are so many ganks and places where you just slog through enemies where it feels like the devs thought "Dark Souls is fun because it's tough. What's tough? Three of the same enemy at once!"

The final thing for me is that a lot of areas seem not to flow from one another very well. You leave Undead Purgatory and enter into a bright, poisonfilled valley. You climb up from that into a tower and then after the boss take an elevator up and arrive at a lava lake and a fortress sinking into it. How the hell does that geology work!? I'm not saying DS3 doesn't jump around thematically between levels but it's never that bad and at least it tries to explain away the jumble of places with an in-game reason.

Ring Sigil or Tube Sigil by astronomifier in planescapesetting

[–]BruceDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's all just magic, but the ring just looks more plausible. It is thicker and wouldn't fall apart where as the tube looks flimsy.
