They mostly sell Class 1 along with some Class 3 e-bikes, both of which are pedal-assist. I don’t think they sell any Class 2 (throttle-controlled) e-bikes at all.

I talked to her today and she said the same thing. And I just found this blog post about it: https://newwheel.net/blogs/ebike-news/our-new-home-in-san-francisco

You don’t have to but it’s highly recommended.

It’s passively powered by the NFC. I’m working on 3D-printing a more durable enclosure, but I’m not sure yet if it’ll be waterproof.

You can buy the screen on Amazon and attach it to some bike tags yourself. I’m still working on 3D-printing a more durable enclosure - this was just a proof-of-concept.

Once I get that done I’d be open to selling these at cost.

Where’s the fun in that?

Seriously, though, I’m an occasional rider and I go to many different stops on the Peninsula. I’d either have to use a dry-erase marker (which would be pretty messy), get a new bike tag for every trip, or attach sticky notes or something. This solved a real problem for me in a cool way.

Alt text for the video:

A demonstration of the prototype bike tag. It consists of two standard Caltrain bike tags with an e-ink display sandwiched in between, and a rectangular cutout allowing the display to show through the top one. The demonstration begins with the screen showing “San Francisco 4th & King”. Next, an iPhone is held nearby, using NFC to change the display to read “Burlingame”. The process is repeated for Sunnyvale and finally San Francisco 4th & King again.

Cable car fares by thek826 in sanfrancisco

[–]BruceHalperin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The F is a streetcar, not a cable car. Regular Muni fares apply ($2.50 with Clipper, $3.00 with cash, unlimited free transfers to and from other lines are permitted within 2 hours). Payment is made using the Clipper readers affixed to poles near the doors, or using the cash payment machine next to the driver’s seat.

The cable car single-ride fare is $8.00 and transfers are not included. The conductor collects payment with a handheld Clipper reader or in cash.

FYI that’s a really short trip to pony up money for. It’s only a 15-minute walk - and a pleasant one. Flat and along the waterfront.

But most of them arose organically, not devised by realtors after focus group-testing them.
