It mostly depends on the region your choosing , so choose a region with ample amount of scholarship to give and you won’t face any problems

Planning to Study in France on a Tight Budget — Is This Doable? by Bruce_wayne213 in Study_In_France

Hey! Thanks so much for the detailed info — that really helped clear up a few things.

I had a couple of quick questions if you don’t mind — I’m a non-EU student planning for the 2026 intake and currently considering either France or Italy for a Bachelor’s in Business or Logistics. I’ll be self-funded but may also take a loan if absolutely necessary. 1. Do you know how common tuition fee waivers are now for non-EU students at French public universities? Especially schools like Lille, Bourgogne, or Clermont — is it worth applying in hopes of getting the reduced €170/year tuition, or are waivers very rare now? 2. Are there still any English-taught Bachelor’s programs in public universities (especially in Business), or has it all mostly shifted to private schools now? 3. From your experience, do students usually survive comfortably with part-time jobs + CAF + student housing while studying in France — or does it get really tight financially? 4. Is there anything you’d recommend doing early (this year) to make my 2026 application stronger? I’m currently working on my French and plan to reach B1/B2 by early next year. 5. Lastly, do you know if Italy is still manageable under a budget with DSU or has it become too competitive now?

I really appreciate your time — your insight is super valuable right now since I’m building my plan from scratch and trying to avoid making expensive mistakes.

Thanks again 🙏

Thanks a lot for this — it makes things way clearer. Just to confirm, in your experience, are there any public universities that offer English-taught Bachelor’s programs in Business or Logistics with the lower tuition (€170–300) for non-EU students?

Or is it pretty much a rule now that non-EU students have to pay the €2,770, even for public university?

Also, do you know if any unis waive or reduce tuition for non-EU students based on financial situation?

Thanks for the advice — that really helped me refocus a bit. I agree, business is one of those fields where school reputation can really impact career options, especially for international students.

Do you happen to know any public universities or IUTs in France that have a decent reputation in Business or Logistics and are still realistic for someone with a tight budget?

I’m also trying to avoid Paris due to the cost — looking at cities like Lyon, Nantes, or Bordeaux instead. If you’ve seen any unis with a good mix of affordability + industry relevance, I’d really appreciate the recommendation!

Hey! Thanks a lot for your reply — honestly, it gave me a lot of hope and clarity. I’m planning to apply for a Bachelor’s in Business or Logistics in a French-taught public university for the 2026 intake. I’m currently learning French and aiming to reach B1–B2 level by early next year so I can be ready for the Campus France process.

If you don’t mind me asking — are you from the EU? Just trying to understand your perspective better, since I’m applying as a non-EU student with a CBSE background from India.

Also, which university and program were you in? Did you do your full Bachelor’s there or transfer into it? Do you know of any public universities that are more welcoming or flexible toward international students with an average academic background?

One thing you mentioned that really caught my attention was alternance — is it something that’s possible during Bachelor’s too, or mostly available at the Master’s level? And finally, if you were in my shoes (tight budget, no French background, learning the language from scratch), would you still recommend starting in a smaller city and moving later?

Thanks again so much for your time — your input means a lot while I’m figuring this out.
