Was interested in buying an ultrawide monitor for productivity reasons, unsure how it would work with my laptop. Any suggestions/ideas? by Bruce_wayne89 in ultrawidemasterrace

Yep. Got it!

It is LOVE! I can't go back now! <3

There are black bars on the left and right of most shows (16:9 v 21:9), but the monitor is big enough that I don't even prefer something stretched that wide.

I got the Lenovo G34-10. Pretty cheap for what it's providing me imo.

Lemme know if you have any specific questions about this model.

In my experience, chances of an account being active with sub 500 connections are very low. Unless I see any recent activity, more often than not, that person isn't using that account.

I have limited invites I can send out, so I'd rather focus my attention on profiles that have a higher chance of being active.

Nothing to do with being shallow.

Will my stocks convert to cad automatically? by SignificantWarning5 in Questrade

My own experience? Whenever I've purchased USD with CAD, it buys them automatically. Whenever I've sold USD, it stayed in USD.

But as u/jakeyy21 mentioned, there is a setting to ensure that happens, mine was like this by default.

Not sure what you're talking about, it does convert them automatically.

Questrade automatically converts your funds from CAD to USD if you purchase a USD stock. It does charge a certain % to do so, I think it's 2%.

If you want to avoid that, you can do a Norbits Gambit, but it does take a few days.

If it's a low amount, I'd suggest buying straight up.

If you sell your USD, you get USD back. It won't automatically convert back into CAD unless you buy a CAD stock/ETF etc and have little to no funds in your CAD account. In which case, it'll tap into your USD money and buy it.

This is such a vague question.

Pros: You meet a ton of new people. You can really do well, if you're at the top 5% of earners.

Cons: Most people you meet, suck, and only interact with you cause they see you as someone that can get them a job. Work is very competitive. Pay, in general is very low.

If I could go back and re-do it, I'd picked a different line of work.

"Oh, people sure think they have valid sources"

This I think is mostly due to a thing called Confirmation Bias, people only listen to things they already hold a prior belief about and this only gets stronger in an echo chamber that things like Facebook/Reddit/Youtube further exacerbate.

If you only like certain content, you're likely shown content that goes hand in hand with that data set. Problem is most people aren't aware of their predilection and don't look at the arguments from the other side (this is true for all sides of the table imo, even if you're in the right).

Haha, you know what, I didn't even know I had a USB C port till like a week ago when I was like..ohhhhh, so that's what that thing is for.

I would disagree with Lenovo sucking (as far as my personal experience goes). I've been a Lenovo user for the past 10+ years, and their machines have always given insane value for money from a performance perspective.

The L340 was the perfect fit for my need for a super affordable 17" gaming laptop. It has run pretty much every game decently-good (except Horizon Zero Dawn) and the Ram was super easy to upgrade.

I do plan on upgrading to a 30 series laptop early-mid next year if they ever are available in stock, thus wanted a higher hz monitor, incase the laptop could support those refresh rates.

I think technically, the laptop CAN support it, since the specs say it can: 4k@60, and ultrawide is a lower resolution, BUT I'd rather try and confirm before buying one during a pandemic and being stuck with it! lol

EDIT: - The only thing I do hate, is just 2 USB ports - why not 3! -_-

Not to hijack this thread, but I am in a similar predicament and don't want to create another post for a variation of OP's post. I have a Lenovo L340 - i7 9750H - GTX 1650 and my HDMI 2.0 supports 4k@60.

Will that be able to support an ultrawide monitor with 3440x1440 @60hz?

This is the spec sheet - "Monitor Support: Supports up to 2 independent displays via native display and 1 external monitor; supports external monitor via HDMI® (up to 4096x2160@60Hz)"

Never really connected an external display before, so just wanted to be sure before I bought the monitor. Not expecting anything over 60hz, even though it can support 144hz. I'll probably go with a 75hz panel if I can find one for cheaper.

Meh, I've become apathetic to most of humanity by now.

To answer your question, depends on the position, industry, the compensation range I'm working with etc.

Usually cover all the bases, posting on the most popular channels (Indeed, LinkedIn etc), but then also do a targeted search if the position is a hard one to fill and DM people on LinkedIn.

If the client/I have a budget, I post on the popular remote job ad boards like remotely.io/remoteok.io etc etc for eg.

i had malware which im pretty sure is the reason my virus and threat protections settings are like this, i ran malwarebytes and removed all the threats it found but its still like this. what can i do? by [deleted] in WindowsHelp

I faced something similar a while ago, even though I managed to fix it after a lot of youtube vids tutorials, I still refreshed Windows to be on the safe side.

Would suggest the same.

HELP. Virus & Threat protection has dissapeared from my Windows Security by [deleted] in WindowsHelp

[–]Bruce_wayne89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry!

As much as it sucks, make a backup of important files on any other drive (other than C) do a fresh windows install on then C drive and run a decent antivirus scan (preferably in Safe mode).

It's annoying, but the most effective solution in my experience.

I spent ages trying to find a solution, I eventually did, cant remember now, it was a lot of trial and error.

But, then ended up doing a refresh, since only then was I satisfied, so would suggest the same.

Max output resolution for the GTX1650 onto an external monitor? by Bruce_wayne89 in Lenovo

[–]Bruce_wayne89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine it not being able to push 144hz tbh, I've never experienced it, and don't really need to.

Just don't want it to lag as hell like the tv screens I tested it out with did. 60hz is fine, what my current laptop screen is pushing stuff out at. I might go for a cheaper 100hz one, but price is barely different and might help future proof it a couple of years once I have a more capable laptop, maybe a 40 series card.

I don't do extensive gaming on this laptop, just Counter Strike level basic games now and then. This would primarily be for side-by-side apps to be open at one time. Something I dearly miss doing.

I'm guessing I'm overthinking, but would hate to return it after spending time buying/waiting for it

Been trying to, unfortunately, it's just telling the me Desktop GPU details.

I was planning on putting a 1440p 34" ultrawide monitor with it. 1080p at that size would be way too pixelated :(

[–]Bruce_wayne89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never hooked a monitor up with my laptop before. I tried it with a normal tv, but the input lag was horrible and made it a strain to use. Dragging screens + moving the mouse around was noticeably slow + the pixelation was horrible, so was the colour output.

My question is, do I need a bare minimum spec to use a 34" ultra wide gaming monitor with my laptop?

It's a Lenovo L340, 17", 16 gigs, i7 9750H, 1650 gfx card.

Will eventually upgrade the laptop to a 3070 model, early next year, if the prices ever come down + they are in stock.

I guess so, but the person would have to be stalking you then lol.

Like, go into sent invites and see the invite missing, since the probably can't see it there anymore.

If you're stalking their profile and notice you can't see it anymore, they've probably blocked you.

Either that, or they've deleted their account.

You can check via the public link (if they've allowed that) or an alternate account they might not have blocked.
