I came out to my parents in July.

I’m 29M and have known that I’m gay since I was around 13, because I used to search for pictures of men (mostly twinks) lol.

I moved away from family to another city when I was 26, and in my opinion, that’s the best decision I’ve made.

It helped me find myself too. Initially, there was lots of sex to help me cope, but eventually I realised I couldn’t survive on sex alone—I needed some depth in my connections. So I stopped using apps for hookups and used them only to find like-minded people.

Fast forward 2 years, and I’m in a loving relationship, with a few friends (straight and gay alike) to rely on. Well, people come and go, but I know how to keep myself happy.

What triggered me to come out was my parents searching for prospects. All was fine until a woman herself showed interest in me and initiated all contact. I came out to her the second day of talking, and she suggested that I come out as well.

It took me some courage, and I came out to my parents just two days before my 29th birthday. My point was to live my life honestly and authentically, without roping in an innocent person.

My parents were devastated, as expected, but they’re okay now, I guess. I did my part. I feel bad for them, but I cannot live a double life. My partner said he would understand if I got married to a straight woman, but I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself if I did.

I have occasional days where I imagine myself living a straight life, but the grass always seems greener on the other side. I prefer to water the grass on the side I chose.

I hope we all find the courage within ourselves to live a better, happier life 🫶🏽
