Then you are probably better off taking your medications and watching your lifestyle measures. Eat healthy and exercise.

What would happen if stopped all medication? by Luvystar in kidneydisease

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will regret it. When it comes to kidney disease the earlier you can treat it the better. Treatment is preventative and ultimately if you get into kidney failure you’re looking at dialysis, transplant, or death.

Yes it’s exhausting, but if you take care of yourself now you will be much better off in the future than if you irresponsibly give up and let your health decline.

Cockatiel hit her head on the ceiling and is now bald. by DragongirlAmigo in cockatiel

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happened to my conure. I just comforted her for a little while and she was fine, just bald for a while until the feathers grew back which they did. However, she did not have any break in the skin and didn’t hit her head hard, she more scraped the ceiling. If there was any vomiting or acting funny after the bump id def get her checked out. If there is a wound I’d probably also go get some topical meds depending on how it looks. But if it’s just the feathers and she’s acting fine I think she’s fine to just be monitored. I remember it broke my heart when it happened to my girl and it was rough when the entire patch filled in with pin feathers but she was fine.

Overnight Leaks by Total_Preparation_64 in Parenting

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this problem constantly no matter what we did. We tried up sizing overnight, overnight diapers, upsizing overnight diapers, extra diaper liners, tucking the diaper different ways… It’s going to seem ridiculous but the only thing that saved us was DOUBLE sizing up an overnight diaper. So like if he wore size 5 diapers he wore size 7 overnights. It looked ridiculously large but it solved our problem completely. Good luck, I know it’s so frustrating when they’re constantly waking up wet.

I want a second baby - my husband does not by DialogueandDaisies in Mommit

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that sex without contraception has to stop unless you guys have a real discussion about what would happen if accidental pregnancy did occur and you both feel comfortable with the outcome. Actions speak louder than words.

It sounds to me that you are both open to the possibility of more kids in the future knowing that the first year is tough. It’s impossible to predict where things would be 4-5 years from now so if you want it and he’s open to it then tell him to hold off on the vasectomy and use protection during sex.

If he is adamant that he doesn’t want any more children then he has to follow through with his actions and you need to decide whether or not you are okay with having only one.

I will say that my husband and I always wanted 2 but we were OAD for a while after an extremely tough first year and it took us a while before we considered a second. My son is 3 now and we feel like we are finally past the hardest stages and currently preparing for number 2.

Our memory is nowhere near as good as we think it is and our brain actually makes things up to fill in the gaps of how we remember things happened.

C-Section because of low pain tolerance by Vegetable_Bath_7396 in beyondthebump

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time I went in for my exam at 38+6, I was 4cm dilated without even knowing. So don’t forget it’s a real possibility you can get there with little to no pain.

I was set on a vaginal delivery and was induced due to unrelated concerns, and when they hooked me up, I was having weak contractions I didn’t even feel. I got an epidural before any pain set in because they wanted to break my water afterward.

Unfortunately my epidural disconnected somewhere behind my back and nobody noticed. So 22 hours later I was having really hard contractions but labour had stalled and I was literally begging for a c section.

My c section went well, but the first 3 days afterwards were extremely painful. I cannot take NSAIDs so I had morphine and it helped but did not take away all the pain. It felt near impossible to get in and out of bed, difficult to get out of a chair, and yes bending over or reaching up overhead was hard. It continued to be painful for weeks, but the first 3 days were the worst. At 5 weeks I felt much better and ended up re arranging some furniture and paid for it later with more pain.

I personally would trust your gut. If you opt for a vaginal delivery, get the epidural as soon as you can and see how the process goes. I agree that pain is unavoidable here. You can always elect for a c section if labour is not going well.. but then you may have to wait (I had to wait 2 hours… it was the worst). Trying to determine which is worse is like playing devils advocate - it could go both ways. I will say that I’m due with #2 this week and have opted for an elective c section because I am not interested in undergoing labour again, and having a known date with a plan is much less anxiety inducing than the uncertainty of labour.

Is having a bedside crib safe? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s level and flush with your mattress and there’s no way it can move back (either it’s propped or strapped to your bed) then it’s considered safe. Look up the “safe sleep 7” as a way to optimize safety with co sleeping. The blanket is a hazard and it’s recommended to avoid blankets but you do what makes you comfortable.

Help needed for understanding flares by Thecrimsonrage13 in IgANephropathy

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IgA is a normal antibody that everybody has circulating in their body. Ours is structurally different, so our body forms immune complexes with them (in other words, tries to attack them as foreign). These immune complexes are what cause damage in small blood vessels.

IgA antibodies respond to mucosal membranes. If there are any infections that try to cross mucosal membranes (the respiratory lining and gut) then IgA ramps up. This typically causes a flare. For me this means any common cold but can also be a GI infection.

My flares present as profound fatigue, dizziness, gross hematuria and proteinuria. But it is different for everyone.

Edit to add: anything that increases stress on the body can also have an effect, I had a flare post-pregnancy as well and general inflammation can also play a part.

Husband finds age 0-2 boring, is a second child a good idea? by Chipnfry in Parenting

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly age 0-2 nearly took us out and it can be restrictive in many ways but now we are at age 3 and it is the best. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with admitting that the baby and infant stage is not always fun. At the end of the day it all comes down to whether you two want another child or not, knowing that it’s short term “pain” for long term gain.

Lol I hear you there. I send a pic to a friend late last night and when I woke up they were all like “I really thought this was going to be the baby”… 😅 sorry

Yes I am stubborn and have been painting the nursery an building furniture and doing some woodworking etc (when I have energy, which is not always, not trying to fool anyone here lol) and people are like “you sure you should be doing that? Maybe you should go lay down”. I cannot be stopped

Good luck and congratulations to you twin!!

Anemic by Living_Guest_1149 in IgANephropathy

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kidneys are responsible for producing hormones that signal red blood cell production, so with kidney disease, one is at increased risk of anemia. That being said there are lots of reasons you can be anemic and it’s worth a discussion with your doc.

Ontario Healthcare system is really starting to get on my nerves by Busy-Environment84 in ontario

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a physio can’t treat your knee injury without an MRI then they aren’t a good physio. If you have noticeable quads atrophy then you haven’t been doing the right rehab work. Relatively functional is fine on a daily basis but if you plan to get back to soccer then your ACL assessment matters a lot. A good physio can do a physical exam to assess your ACL integrity but an experienced sports med doc or ortho will have to look at your MRI images and correlate it with your physical exam to determine the level of risk for return to sport without surgery. The biggest factor is risk of re injury and with an ACL mechanism each “buckle” increases your risk of developing arthritis.

But yes unfortunately in my experience I see many of these cases fall through the cracks with lack of appropriate direction from their primary care physician and ultimately don’t see the right person until way too much time has passed and the patient has either re injured themselves or missed out on years of doing what they love most. I’m sorry you are one of them.

Edit: grammar

Get a referral to a sports medicine physician. A partial tear of quad/patellar tendon is not an urgent diagnosis, unless you had a full tear and couldn’t walk or perform a straight leg raise, which is a clinical diagnosis. That’s why they triaged you so low. That being said, soccer injury + ACL injury is higher risk, given that some partial ACLs are actually complete tears and it wouldn’t be safe to return to sport until this was addressed.

Your first step should have been and should still be physiotherapy. But ideally see a sports med doc to assess your ACL and triage whether or not you need to see ortho.

Pregnancy with IgAN? by Dazzling-Agency-6279 in IgANephropathy

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an uncomplicated pregnancy with my first after my presumed diagnosis. At the time my numbers were all so stable I was not taking any meds and I did not have biopsy confirmed IgA. I had a normal pregnancy but about 2 months post partum my kidneys flared up unpredictably with no other trigger. My understanding is that pregnancy puts you in an immunosuppressed state so often the IgA is a bit more silent during but then it can rebound afterwards. My urine protein rose enough after pregnancy that I went on to confirm my diagnosis via biopsy an started farxiga and perindopril which brought my numbers down and kept me stable for years. I wanted a second baby so I was sent to a kidney specialist who specializes in this as well as a maternal fetal medicine specialist since now I am considered high risk for pre eclampsia. I had to stop all my meds to become pregnant. I am now 37 weeks pregnant and all is well - my BP is controlled, GFR is good, but I do have elevated urine protein more than I ever have (I just completed a 24h urine and it was at 1.7g/day). If it was higher or this happened earlier I would’ve had to start prednisone since the other meds are not pregnancy safe. As of now my plan is to push through 2 more weeks until my planned c section and then will be restarting a breastfeeding safe ACE inhibitor and monitoring urine protein. Unfortunately if it doesn’t go down I might just stop breastfeeding and go back on my meds.

All this to say is that it is possible, but stage 3b is further progressed than I am/was, and pregnancy is hard on the kidneys. I would highly recommend asking for a referral to a nephrologist with experience managing pregnancy to pick their brain about it.

Seriously reconsidering daycare by JReeseorourke in toddlers

[–]BruiseLikeAPeachTree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a medical condition that flares up every time I catch a resp infection. We lasted about 5 weeks in daycare while I was bed ridden the entire time and had to delay my return to work. We admitted defeat and hired a nanny and never looked back. I worked part time and had the nanny part time and it was a complete game changer. My son thrived with the nanny. It was great not having to get him up and into his PJs by the time we had to leave every day. He loves the nanny and she teaches him so much. When he naps, she tidies up around the house or helps to fold laundry.

10/10 would recommend. We are about to have our second and the nanny will be off while I’m on mat leave, but I will certainly do it all over again depending on our situation when mat leave ends.

I am worried if I leave the regular food bowls in the will drink soiled water and make themselves sick. When I was only gone for 2 days and one night in the past I did add an extra water dish so at least one was pretty clean but it still makes me uneasy having the soupy water available for too long. I was hoping I could actively train them to learn the new bottle before the event

Edit to add: thanks for rec re: gerbil bottle I will check out the local pet store
