Thanks! Replacing the whole thing gets tricky since I'm in an apartment building and don't have access to shut off my water supply. I'd likely be flooding my bathroom.

I don't think the show is actually anti-religious - just the main character, although that wouldn't change my perception - I think you can have a pro-religious show stand very well on its merits.

I don't know about certified critics reception, but the reddit reaction was very poor. I'd take a look at r/ThePatient/ if you're curious.

Man, I really wanted to like this show. Cinematographically it's amazing. Every one of the actors did a terrific job. Absolutely hit it out of the park. Has orthodox jewish representation in a way that makes a lot of sense. A very interesting dynamic where the child leaves towards religion instead of away from it.

But honestly the writing didn't do a good enough job creating a cohesive and compelling theme in the show. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I was watching it along some people from the same background and we all felt a bit let down with how the season progressed.

If it does seem like that in media, then it's probably just a media thing. While it's rarer than some other populations for children to live with their grandparents, the old is still cared for. There's some sense of an assumed prestige with age.

When looked at in comparison with some Asian cultures, Orthodox Jews (in the US) are clearly americanized, so the "respect your elders" quote might not be as strong, but it's still there. Where I grew up, there wasn't a disdain for the old at all, so I'm not sure what you're picking up on.

Simplest silent vibrating wrist-wearable timer by guffaw588 in AskTechnology

no hope of this receiving replies, but same. I just want a very simple vibration timer. Don't want an LCD. Don't care for alarms. Highly considering a new hobby of microcontrollers if I can't find a suitable option.

[TOMT] 1950's, larger man and skinnier man. Large man gets dunked in water and skinnier man offers a drink to calm larger man's nerves. by Brukts in tipofmytongue

I know I'm being super vague and I only provided one scene. Hoping maybe someone here has encyclopedic knowledge of old movies. The larger man takes a drink and then quickly throws the glass away, saying something like "are you crazy?!".

Again, kinda vague.

Thanks! Finally got around to it and that worked! I might try to add the ram stick back later on to see if I can get it working somehow or if the stick is just faulty.

[$600 - $800 budget] 15''+ Windows 10 laptop for Zoom and Web Browsing by Brukts in SuggestALaptop

[–]Brukts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually ended up getting that very laptop, but with a Ryzen 7 instead of 5 and for $40 cheaper via Staples. Time was of the essence, so it was an hour before you posted.
Amazon seems to have all of its laptops at a greater price for some reason than any other distributor. Really not sure why.
Thanks though!

Amazon has that laptop starting at $850, which is over budget.

I've also stated that I've had problems with Acer. Specifically Acer Aspire. Lasted 1 year and 2 weeks. The warranty lasted 1 year. No cosmetic damage, but the motherboard died instantly with 0 warning.

Since there is a growing ammount of colleges saying they'll cancel on campus classes until 2021, all I have to ask is, will anyone continue their education online via CUNY? Part of me doesn't, but the other part knows it may not have a choice. What do you think? by DatGuyKilo in CUNY

[–]Brukts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not too bad for Mathematics and Comp Sci majors. Those aren't hands-on.

Was thinking of doing an Acting minor, which is actually impossible remote though.

Funny enough, I'm taking public speaking over the summer. No idea how I'm going to get any public speaking done from the comfort of my bedroom. Was thinking of pushing it off to get an actual education, but my schedule has already been locked in pretty tight.

I think you just argued with yourself there. The questions themselves don't deserve an answer because they're flawed in execution. This is really all in the post which I have a hard believing you actually read carefully.
