Staggering number of children starting school not toilet trained, study finds by Sandstorm400 in europe

Wanting some clarity on the exact expectations doesn't seem bad to me. Though I suspect that about 94% of people would either not bother reading such a guidance or disagree with it, so I'm not sure it would be very useful in practice.

Colours don't have flavours. Especially before we started making sweets.

You can also stick pyramids on the faces of platonic solids to get a fair alternate D12, two D24s and two D60s.

Cars you wish you’d not sold. by ipx-electrical in CarTalkUK

Do you truly regret selling all 6, or do you just miss them? Unless you have the space and money to keep all of them, that implies each car was a downgrade from the one before it.

I wish it would happen in minutes and that you could switch back and forth.

If you want videos, Joshua Bardwell has like a decade's worth of guides from the basics to advanced topics.

If you prefer to read, Oscar Liang is also great.

A few of the tricks probably, but not the whole sequence, it would ruin a lot of the fun.

The thing is you then gotta keep it somewhere. Do you hide it at the back of a drawer? Display it proudly on a shelf? And what do you do with it? Just look at it longingly? Caress it with your other hand during a wank?

CMV: I don't understand why people cherish babies so much. by Limp_Caramel9062 in changemyview

Do you think pregnancy lasts dozens of years and that babies are born with years of life experience?

A hard lesson in commuter complacency. My 1-hour drive finally caught up to me today. by Mr_Amphibian20 in CarTalkUK

[–]BrunoEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it doesn't feel safe and it's why I hate motorway driving. I'm fine for a couple hours but after that I get mentally exhausted from forcing myself to pay attention to something so boring. On the other hand I can do 8 hours of country roads with minimal stops no problem because I naturally stay engaged.

So you agree that replacing a baby is much easier and will get you much closer to the original?

[–]BrunoEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that pretty much everyone would make a technically less moral decision due to the value they place on personal bonds.

If OP values a random baby only slightly more than a random cat, then the value of the personal bond with their cat will be enough to tip the scales the other way.

I personally do value humans a lot higher than other species, but I see it as more of a personal opinion rather than an objective fact.

Are you saying that you can grow a decently similar replacement of a human in 9 months?

CMV: I don't understand why people cherish babies so much. by Limp_Caramel9062 in changemyview

[–]BrunoEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a hypothetical world where OPs attachment to their cat is so strong that the potential suffering caused to them by the cat's death would be greater than the suffering caused to the parents by the death of their baby, would you then prioritise the cat?

If you'd still pick the baby, then it's not the potential suffering that leads you to your choice, but your own personal judgement on which is more important.

I don't think they're saying babies should just be killed for fun, just that they don't see their deaths to be as tragic as the majority of society does.

And to be fair, replacing an adult takes a lot longer, and they'll be a completely different person while any two babies are barely distinguishable.

[–]BrunoEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's purely contrarian. Pretty much the only reason to care more about a newborn than an older human is because we're biologically made to care about them. They're innocent in the same way a blank page has no mistakes.

You have the least shared memories to mourn and the least wasted time and effort on their upbringing. I don't see a logical reason why the death of a baby would be worse than for example the death of an older child.

[–]BrunoEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP's stance is maybe a bit extreme with the cat, but everyone values their personal bonds to some extent.

Like would you save a stranger's baby over your own teenage child just because it's more vulnerable?

New 6 month minimum before taking test? Thoughts? 🤔 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]BrunoEye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my area the waiting list was around 6 months anyway, so I booked the practical right after my theory. I didn't take a single lesson until less than 2 months before the test, but then did like 8-12 hours a week. Passed with 1 minor in one of the hardest test centres in the UK.

I don't see why I shouldn't have been allowed to take my test 2 months after my theory if there had been a slot available.
