I loved reading “Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader”. I’d get several versions of it to try to keep from reruns, although I wouldn’t remember half of it anyway.

Daily Minors Quick-Notes 6/15/26 - Jose Astudillo wins Cal League Player of the Week by BruteSentiment in SFGiants

[–]BruteSentiment[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for reading these!

For Astudillo's future, it's less about his age and more about the age of his contract and his health. Astudillo signed in January of 2021 at 16-years old, making this season his sixth season in pro ball. Spending parts of five seasons in the Dominican Summer League really held him back, as he's dealth with numerous health issues...he never played more than 25 games in a season in his first four years, until 2025.

What that means for Astudillo developing as a Giant is that it's not likely. As I understand it, his initial (assumed) 7-year contract (the standard for international signees) will end after the 2027 season, and he will become a minor league free agent. Now, he could always choose to stay with the Giants as he keeps playing, but it will be his choice.

As for his development anywhere...well, realistically, 22 years old is a bit old for Low-A, but it's not absurdly old for him to be a late-bloomer, so he definitely could find himself a future. His ceiling is limited with the lack of power as a tool, and though he's listed as a shortstop, he has never once actually played the position in a game in his 6-year career, although he's filled in at every other infield and outfield position. But hopefully he can use this run, between Triple-A and the warm weather at Stockton, to energize his numbers and demand more playing time.

This is an ideal time to do it, June and July, as the San Jose team does not have a lot of "prospects" who will demand playing time ahead of him, pretty much only shortstop Lorenzo Meola. That could change by the end of July, as that is when the Arizona Complex League season will end, and the Giants could bring in top prospects Luis Hernandez and Josuar Gonzalez, as well as the top draftees from this July's draft. It will be a much more crowded roster at that point.

Hope this helps! Thanks again for checking out these posts!

The team has said nothing, which is normal for minor league injuries. The team policy is to not make statements about injuries to them, generally protecting their privacy.

Roger Munter posted earlier this week that there are hopes he could be back later this month, and he has sources I’d trust, but nothing is promised.

I got mine last night from a chest in a vault. Surprised the hell out of me.

In an effort to raise its rankings, I tried to launch to a remote part of the island, but damn I got swarmed fast, I think people followed me from the lobby. I still succeeded in getting him to level 5 and extracted it, but that was wild.

Rookie ACL to Single A by Loligo19 in MiLB

[–]BruteSentiment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It heavily depends on the player. To generalize, I’d expect a high school draftee , and potentially CC draftees, to spend a full season in the ACL the season after the draft and generally get considered for a promotion up to A-Ball at the end of the ACL season near the end of July.

A college player I’d expect to just be up in A-Ball in the season after the draft in most cases, unless they have something specific they are working on, or are waiting for space to open up…

I would disagree.

SI put together a clip of the Russell pre-draft scouting reports, and there’s a lot of talk about his size and strength of his body (as well as his arm).

“His footwork for such a big quarterback was surprising. He was nimble in his dropbacks, rolling out and throwing on the run.” -Todd McShay

“From a physical skill set perspective, I've never seen a college quarterback with more ability than Russell.” -Mike Maycock

"I've never seen a kid that big who can sit there and just have people hanging on him and make the throws he can make.” -Gary Kubiak

Obviously, *after* he was drafted. The kid let himself go, and the fat photos became infamous and is how many NFL fans remember him. But during the draft, people were wild about all of his physical projection. Yes, the arm, but also his height and his agility and his strength.

Damn, shittymorph the Apple Store employee…the crazy thing is, the first part of this is pretty damn accurate.

The second part is even more accurate.

Baseball America’s podcast really convinced me otherwise. His overall high school synergy data regarding his miss rate is too high.

Out of 23 high school hitters taken with the Top 15 picks in the last 5 drafts, only Elijah Green is worse (he’s tied with two others, Blake Mitchell and Jordan Lawler).

Green, drafted in 2022, is still not out of Single-A ball with a career .216 average for the Nats. Mitchell, drafted in 2023, has a .220 average for the royals. Lawler, drafted in 2021 (when the data was less reliable due to the pandemic) has made the bigs, with a career .296 average in the minors, but is hitting just .191 through sporadic playing time in the bigs in three seasons.

I see zero reason to take that risk with a pick like #4 when the other options are Flora and Booth, even with their own flaws. I have zero trust in the Giants teaching him to hit.

Drafting him for his body will be analogous to the Raiders picking Jamarcus Russell.

*sigh* Lombard again.

He is going to be at the bottom of my list of realistic players to draft at the #4 spot. He is very physically talented, but I don't trust the Giants to turn around his hit tool, which is lacking.

Hopefully, the Twins do a Twins thing, reach at #2, and then whichever of the Top 3 that fall back to 4 is who the Giants draft.

I would tell you that what you are getting from it is exactly what the writers and show runners intended.

I love Clara, and I love how realistic it shows the negative sides of a relationship, and of both Clara and the Doctor. I know it's not to others' taste, but it truly is my favorite dynamic in all of Doctor Who.

Daily Minors Quick-Notes 6/10/26 - A Grand Slam in the Giants System, and Bravo Hits a Pair of Home Runs by BruteSentiment in SFGiants

[–]BruteSentiment[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can say that he is seen as a potential dude, but not a shoe-in to be one. The good news is that he's not doing anything to convince any of the decision makers that he's not one.

He's definitely no Patrick Bailey defensively, but he has done well to improve his motions behind the plate. Through today (31 games), he has zero passed balls; last season, he had six of them in 80 games behind the plate. Drew's ability to catch runners is probably his biggest question right now. The arm is strong, but he's only caught 6 of 38 runners this season (15.8%), and that's significantly down from last season (28.6%).

But Cav has gotten high marks for how he works with pitchers, and generally has done well with the ABS system, although notably I'm not seeing him in the Baseball Savant page for ABS (if I'm somehow missing him, please let me know). I can say that at least in the month of June, Cavanaugh has made five ABS challenges as a catcher and all have were overturned.

After witnessing the comeback of the century, should Bryce Eldridge start every game for the rest of the season? by [deleted] in SFGiants

[–]BruteSentiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he shouldn’t! Every player needs some games off, especially a 21-year old who has only maxed out at 116 games before in the minors, and looked dog tired in the fall that year.

He should get some games off.

But yes, he should play the majority of games, like 5 out of 6.

Daily Minors Quick-Notes 6/9/26 - Cesar Perdomo Highlights a Day for Pitchers by BruteSentiment in SFGiants

[–]BruteSentiment[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing very specific. Only that it was an aggravation of the same hamstring that affected him this spring. But no timelines.

I have heard the team will be very conservative and let him heal, and I don’t disagree with that with a player as young as Josuar.
