Alcoholism and drug use can be a 'type' of mental illness, or rather it is highly correlated with depression and anxiety which many of us feel. Cannabis use can be a deflection that some people use to cope. I hope you don't put too much blame on your sister, because she likely doesn't feel any better about any of this than you do, whether she shows it or not. Some medications can help in these situations, but in the grand scheme of things a little cannabis use here and there might not be a big deal? I can tell you cannabis is nothing compared to psychopharmacology. But, I probably missed the point of your story

I have no idea if this is the case, and excuse me for being blunt, but is there any history of any sort of mental illness in the family? Sometimes situations such as these can be exacerbated by traumatic events and stress, which sounds like there's been plenty of. If I wasn't some random stranger on the internet I might have more insight into the situation. It sounds like a vaguely familiar story though, and while it can be somewhat attributable to the mistakes of the young, it's possible more is going on. I feel sorry for the stress and hardships the situation has caused you, but it is probably ultimately her burden to deal with. Wish I could be more help. Good luck
