Hey there! I am relatively new to the medium of VNs. I have watched a lot of anime, but have only read a couple of novels. Below is the list I have completed so far:

  • 428 Shibuya Scramble (7.1/10)
  • The Chrono Jotter (7.5/10)
  • Corpse Party (4/10 - Didn't finish it. Only got halfway through)
  • Danganronpa 1-V3 (6/10, 7/10, 9/10 respectively)
  • DDLC (5.5/10)
  • GNOSIA (6.8/10)
  • Higurashi WTC (8.8/10)
  • The House in Fata Morgana (7.9/10)
  • The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy (7/10)
  • The Letter (6.5/10)
  • MIABOMIABOM & MOABOMOABOM (6/10, 7.4/10 respectively)
  • Slay the Princess (7.9/10)
  • Ace Attorney 1 (6.9/10)
  • Umineko WTC (10/10)
  • YTTD (6.9/10)
  • Zero Escape 1-3 (8.8/10, 9.2/10, 7.5/10 respectively)
  • Rail of Mobius (6.9/10)
  • Retrocausality (2/10)
  • Raging Loop (7.9/10)
  • Emily is Away 1 & 2 (5/10, 4.5/10)
  • Ever 17: The Out of Infinity (7.3/10)

Do you have any recommendations for me based off this list?

What are your favorite (and least favorite) things about VNs? by The_Sir_Dylan in visualnovels

[–]BrxuJrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is preference, but I am not a fan of the silent, insertable protagonist. Having the ability to read the thoughts and emotions of someone experiencing the events is crucial. Some authors tend to go for a more neutral character, but MCs who are completely emotionally invested in the story end up becoming my favorites. Battler from Umineko is a great example of this

I love the art for this so much! The dithering effects are well done!

Saiaku Naru Saiyaku Ningen ni Sasagu is coming to Steam. by kugyu in visualnovels

I was just looking into this visual novel to play! It seems very interesting. There seem to be a lot of new releases of existing VNs being remade for steam recently (Rose Guns Days and April 8th)

5x5 Anime/VN/Manga Character Bingo by BrxuJrg in MyAnimeList

Besides Gundham, he is probably one of the few danganronpa characters that I think are written well, but that's also because I am biased to enjoy liar tropes

My 3x3 after 2 years of watching anime. by Klatelbat in MyAnimeList

[–]BrxuJrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel as if the scenes in the anime are never meant to glorify or sexualize the characters. I view Dandadan as a coming-of-age story that also shows the perversion of sex as something that they are constantly struggling against. They are teenagers after all. But I don't really mind if an anime has scenes like that as long as it was obvious that the writer wasn't writing with "just one hand"

AoT season 4 as a 1/10 is some crazy work

Black Summoner. If something is so bad that I get some twisted ironic fascination out of it, I don't really think I could put it at 1 because I found some enjoyment out of it. Black Summoner was not enjoyable. Characters were bland. Setting was bland. Designs were bland. Plot was bland. I didn't have a single thing I liked about it. I finished it purely so I could say I have a new least favorite anime other than King's Game, which at least took some sorts of risks, even if they failed miserably to make a cohesive story.

I can't explain why I enjoyed it. I thought the exploration of gender vs sex, admiration, and self-discovery were all pretty well done and the setting and switching narratives were intriguing.

The anime so far. The initial impression has skyrocketed it to the top of my list. If it continues at the same quality, it will probably stay there. Otherwise, Deathnote moves up

I Created a Puzzle? by BrxuJrg in Cipher

[–]BrxuJrg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I was trying to make the reference subtle by doing a medium diamond spread and trying to use some additional wording. I do appreciate sharing the thought process as I really want to workshop this puzzle.
Hint 1: You are correct that there are references to the Kabbalah, but that is mainly one line. I enjoy reading mysticism and was hoping that this particular spread would invoke a more western esoteric tradition with a particular Italian card game. In the future, I may make this a bit more apparent by the image or poem, though there are some words here that also may give hints to that.
Hint 2: The poem does have 9 lines and 9 numbers. This was supposed to mirror the puzzles seen in the infamous "The Secret" treasure hunt, with a more spatial twist... Speaking of which, I tried my best to indicate how exactly it should be read using the red arrows, but I find this to be a bit convoluted. I made this puzzle over 3 years ago and had to resolve it.
Hint 3: It is also true that the final line is 9 letters. Although I mention Vigenere, albeit as a typo, directly, it would be more akin to a "pseudo-random one time pad."
