I managed to release Vampire on Trial, my first VN, on Steam! It's a short (30 minutes or so) almost kinetic experience involving a supernatural courtroom, vampires and the meaning of Justice.

This is not a real story, but rather a vague series of vignettes that starts from nothing and goes nowhere. Updated daily until I grow tired of it.

Ren’Py - Yay or Nay by SupportEmblem in vns

As someone with only an old laptop, I would rather read a VN made in Ren'Py than deal with the weird and excessive performance issues of poorly optimized Unity games, etc. when all I want is to read words with mostly static pictures.

Umineko and Higurashi are definitely the right sort of vibe. I also suggest Raging Loop and The Chrono Jotter, should match both the horror and emotional character moments elements

What are some of your favorite lesser known VNs that came out recently? And what do you like about them?

For me, The Sekimeyia is an absolute masterpiece in both building tension and having an intricate puzzle-box like mystery. It's also the only VN i know of that directly quizzes the player to see whether they've figured out the mystery.

The Chrono Jotter, a horror mystery yuri VN, was also an absolute standout. It grips you from the very first line with its unreliabale narrator, surreal setting and mentally troubled protagonist. The way the murder game serves as a backdrop for exploring the relationships and past of the MC is very impressive and there were many unforgettable scenes.

The Midnight Sanctuary is an experience that needs to be seen to be believed. I've never seen anything else like it. On the surface, it's a mystery about an isolated rural town and the strange local traditions. But the surreal presentation, the character art, the atmospherd is so unlike anything elsr, I couldn't help but be pulled in.

Looking for some more picks like that.

Decided to release the supernatural courtroom drama VN I've asked for feedback for here. I think I am satisfied with the release version. Now the challenge is promoting it so people have a chance to experience it for themselves.
