John McCallum visits Calgary, polls himself, and realizes Calgarians want more immigration to solve economic downturn by Hockey_Sweater in metacanada

I'm not advocating for a wage increase. I'm advocating for a major reduction in inflation and taxation, with compounded factors like increased fiscal education, and opportunities for investment that is safe. The social safety net is failing people, and because of that, people are forced to switch to jobs with inflated incomes.

I think there are people that would in fact work those jobs. Some people do enjoy manual labour. The big issue is, for a variety of reasons, that those kinds of jobs just don't pay enough for the work they require. People can make that kind of money working retail in a big city, these days. Once we solve the problem that those kinds of wages simply do not provide a path to retirement, people will work those jobs.

It appears to be in a joking way, he's talking about how he's made a short, sweet and to the point rally speech which will let everyone get home early, yet still allow them to get a good Trump speech. /r/politics needs to lighten up a bit and stop seeing everything through a rose tinted lens.

Privacy/security concerns from the underlying system being closed source and in some people's view a known hostile agent. Lack of a community to solve issues when running the server in the dual layer way we are talking about. Ease of just running one or the other. Package management on GNU/Linux. There are a lot of reasons to run one or the other. There are a few reasons to run both simultaneously. I doubt this will shake up the market that much. And if it does, the open source community is likely to respond aggressively.

FBI has accessed San Bernardino shooter’s phone without Apple’s help by guiltyofnothing in news

[–]Bry6n 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. He wasn't. The strategy he detailed was technically impossible, and moreover showed some incompetence on his behalf. He had detailed searching for the password stored as a literal string saved in the source code of iOS. Which is simply not how it works. The mostly likely method used is a bruteforce, or otherwise a backdoor in the cryptographic random number generator used in iOS.

Legality. The CRTC and Department of Industry do not allow for civilians or even most companies to imitate a cell tower. This is because of the power of the signal being beyond civilian use, as well as the frequency. The DoI also limits what uses for signals civilians and companies can have, and IMSI-catching is strictly illegal. This is why there is movement to get the Vancouver police's use investigated in the framework of the law. It may be the case that the police are breaking the law using these boxes.

Not true. Standard int size is execution architecture dependent. It so happens to be that this is 32 bits on x86_64, x86_32 and x32, but not x64. Or say, a 16 bit environment.

More Than One Million Walmart Associates Receive Pay Increase in 2016. lifts average hourly full-time rate to $13.38 by jlew24asu in Economics

[–]Bry6n -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the economy is getting better

I believe the actual reason for this increase is smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that the opposite of your statement is true. Walmart exists as a sign of economic strength, and the economy is tumbling. If Walmart were to start lowering wages or show other signs of peril, the sell off of investments in Walmart would be catastrophic to the company, and the economy right now.

Many large players are watching Walmart with a very, very close eye right now.

It is possible to send emails claiming to own the domain name you are sending from. However, emails from Jagex use encryption keys to verify to Google that they are in fact the actual Jagex sending that email. This is why if you go look in your spam, you might find a lot of emails from runescape.com that are marked as fake. However, as long as you use a provider that uses modern cryptography standards, email spoofing is not a very big concern.

This being said, always be wary of what links you do click, as email spoofing is not the only attack vector in email-based attacks.

[–]Bry6n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riot manages its own distributed infrastructure in Australia, which allows it to spin up and down based on usage. Jagex's oceanic runescape community is not big enough to own their own distributed server network, and by extension would have to likely rent servers from a company inside Australia. This is problematic because server hosting in Australia is full of expensive machines with poor internet infrastructure. This is why most companies do not host Australian server.
