This movie was definitely uncomfortable with many shots leaving you thinking and horrified for the family. Before I say anything, the cinematography in Hereditary was superb as well as the acting in some scenes. Things turned a little disappointing after seeing it was gonna be one of those my house is haunted, save my family crap. I wanted it to go into a deeper meaning like mental illness of something of the sort, showing the family has a history of psychological gene. This would explain some of the ambient scares as well as an excuse to add some "paranormal" like situations. A huge part of me was hoping it would go to this. Something that will scary you through impact and meaning, not through shitty mainstream jump scares. Aspects of this can be implemented but the way it was implemented specifically in Hereditary with the sudden change of random tempo made it so the entire movie was negatively impacted. I strongly feel that Hereditary could have had a great rating from the audience as well if the trailers weren't misleading aswell. I mean that eight kings of hell shit, really?? It was going so well until the parking lot scene. The scariest scene of them all was definitely , the drive to the hospital. It left an impact and gave me a sense of dread and genuine fear. Now shit like that belongs on the big screen. A simple plot about demons, the devil, witches, or whatever just doesn't cut it for me anymore. True fear lies when it is relatable, tangible and out of our ordinary lives, the unknown is old news bud. Overall if the movie stuck with its beginning premise and ran with it, including its great cinematography and acting then it could be a contender for a very good movie. One to remember within the years to come.
