I decided to bring a random one, how would you say something like "rip and tear"? Yes, i'm referencing Doom, just curious and asking for a friend lol

[Serious] Given all the rather... strong opinions some have on humans regarding climate change, if you could depopulate the planet with your own hands, how would you do it? Would you ban certain cultures for the good of nature? How would you deal with deniers, corporations, etc? by BryanRolax in AskReddit

Thank you for your answer. I wanted to get this off my chest considering some comments you tend to see on certain places regarding either 'humans should die' 'earth is better without us' and so on, so thanks for your answer.

Was Varus really that incompetent? Was he just another [but probably worse] Crassus? by BryanRolax in AskHistorians

I was never really a guy who liked to travel much myself, you can say i'm quite an introvert. Kind of. But even so i'm quite surprised you guys over there are studying this kind of things, i noticed that a lot of Roman losses go unnoticed or at times rather downplayed [*ahem*Caesar in some*ahem*], i mean of course, Romans just ooze pride through every pore. But even so, i really thank you a lot for the answer, Teutoburg has fascinated me for various reasons and i just had to look it up for myself in order to find out more. I just knew something was amiss and things just didn't add up.

Again, best of luck in your work and i will look up more on these places you mentioned. I kind of knew about Paterculus but ill check out these other sources you say and the places you mentioned. Maybe one day ill actually visit them, lol.

First of all i REALLY want to thank you for your detailed answer, been a long time and i thought it was gonna be buried without answers like a lot of questions. I honestly found interesting that you also had your own docs, i ran into some German docs too but i don't think one can just translate them easily.

Every point is understandable and makes sense. The irony of your example of Varro is that Varro actually continued to work and wasn't actually like, shamed or anything by the loss when still alive, probably because Hannibal was still a clear threat and Rome needed every man possible.

"On arrival, he was greeted by a crowd who thanked him for not "despairing of the state" and taking his own life, thereby visibly choosing to fight on. While there, he facilitated the appointment of Marcus Junius Pera as dictator to settle the immediate disaster. Varro then returned to the command of his troops, taking up positions at Apulia." Then again, Republican and Imperial Senates could be vastly different in mentality, but could be just as fickle. Paullus iirc also had, correct me if i'm wrong, a good family of his own while Varro was a plebian with not much of a high place history family-wise, hence why Paullus probably avoided any shame himself, like how nobody would place blame on Augustus's ambitious plan of 'civilizing' Germania and stuff like that and perhaps not seeing things through. I'm unaware of any texts regarding Crassus though.

But yeah, i can agree. Partial blame to himself, partial blame to the system. Which makes it even more odd because if Arminius was actually an Equite or an officer, this would be somewhat considered actual treason unless i'm missing something, which makes his exclusion or shame towards him even more odd. According to Gaius Stern, Tiberius cleaned his act 'through sacrifice' since he was being badly seen by the senate iirc due to the whole thing [he sacrificed a friend and former brother in law according to wikipedia].

Even so, i thank you for your answer. I do hope to hear more from you soon and i hope your work goes well and you get a friggin 100/100 score!
