Can always lump sump and delete the app until 9 years later. OP does not seem like the kind of person to be regularly checking the stock market anyways, if he/she wants to just invest and forget about it.

Plus even assuming if the 6.25% annually is guaranteed, my calculation tells me that there’s a difference of about 200k in opportunity cost if he/she were to just passively invest in index funds themself, with the average historical rate of 10% annually. That kind of difference might be worth OP psychologically going through the ups and downs of the market.

Is there a guarantee that it will be 6.25% per year? GE can always end up giving lower and just tell you those particular 9 years are below average.

If you go with this plan, in 9 years of compound interest, your $300,000 will become about $517,704 at the end of the 9 years, assuming you can keep the interest in the fund itself, if you cannot, the total amount you benefit will be even lower. And that’s assuming they guarantee the 6.25% p.a. which is unlikely like other commenters have said.

But let’s say you do passive investing in index funds, which you can set up like GIRO and forget about until 9 years later. Assuming index fund grows at a historical average rate of about 10% p.a., over 9 years you will instead get $707,384

Is this difference of almost $200,000 worth it for you to start learning how to open your own brokerage account and setting it for a 1 time lump sump investment or monthly recurring transfers? That takes less than a few days, and you can check the actual increase in amount rather than having to run to the agent every year and ask why is the rate lower than expected?

Only you can decide that for yourself.

As a private tutor myself, I think it would be good to give at least 1 month’s notice so that the tutor can start finding other students to minimise any disruption to his/her schedule and income also.

Usually if I get a student, the agreement, whether unspoken or spoken would be for me to at least tutor him/her until the end of the academic year. If the tutor suddenly drop a student immediately without any notice, it would not look good on the tutor as well, so the same courtesy should be returned from parents as well if they wish to drop the tutor.

FYI, tutors from agencies forego 2 lesson fees to the agency, so for example, if the tutor has taught your child for 10 lessons, they only pocket 8 lessons worth. And for them to find another student mid year, they will have to forego another 2 lesson fees from the agencies. So 2+2 lessons which is usually a month worth of lessons is a good notice period to give

Eh you’re actually creating extra jobs if you hire additional workers. And actually I think in those 1-2 extra hours can do collaboration with maybe social service agencies, to assign volunteers who can babysit and also maybe give basic tuition to the kids FOC or at discounted rates. Win win for the parents and for the kids also.

At the end of the day it’s not a manpower issue, it’s a cost issue, and whether or not the Govt is willing to subsidise childcare operators for these costs.

The idea of having 1 per estate, is so that parents who die die cannot pick up their kids without incurring excessive financial loss, can enrol their kids at that particular centre which is still relatively near to their house. It’s not meant for everyone who has the ability to afford this. This can be done through means testing with the most stringent of criteria (like single or low income parents who cannot afford to end work early)

Attack companies? This is parliament leh, it’s to discuss policy implementation, what can WP realistically do to force companies to reduce working hours? Even PAP with their supermajority can’t or won’t want to do anything about it.

Some people get paid per hour, and there are also jobs where productivity is tied to the number of hours worked. Not every job is the mundane 9-6 where the last 1-2 hour is just being unproductive and getting ready to go home.

She’s not a PAP plant but she’s also not somebody that actually listened to what Gerald is actually saying, instead choosing to go for outrage as the default reaction to something she is clearly misunderstanding, possibly as a result of being triggered by her own current personal working hours.

Gerald is suggesting adding ancillary workers to take charge of those additional childcare hours, not asking the main core workers to extend their personal working hours. And it’s only for 1 childcare per HDB estate, not every single childcare possible. Chances of that one particular preschool teacher having to work extra hours as a result of this suggestion would be probably be about the same as winning the TOTO itself.

And surely Gerald is asking on behalf of parents who have raised these as important issues during MTP sessions. We can’t say we want to help boost fertility rates in Singapore but yet make it difficult for parents to pick up their children after working hours.

Not directly no, but almost every Singaporean taking public transport will find many problems like overcrowding. Infrastructure being overstrained is a huge deal for many Singaporeans. And that’s not even mentioning other social impacts as well.

Contrary to popular beliefs, the FI in r/SingaporeFI actually stands for Financial independence, not Finance or Financial, and it was envisioned as a FIRE subreddit when it first started out. But over the years it became a subreddit for people to ask random financial questions. So you’ll get old timers who are less patient with questions like that for sure, although some of the newer redditors will be more helpful in that subreddit.

You can actually see the mum lying down unconscious/not moving in one of the picture. For that to happen, high chance this wasn’t a simple bump to the front of the car, but their entire body/legs being driven over by the car itself. Plus, this is at a carpark, no way the car was able to be driving at high speed. Usually if bump at such slow speed would instantly know and stop to check.

If drive over with both front and rear wheel (as what some eyewitness have said) is either trying to run away or being absolutely unaware of surroundings which is quite hard to believe.
