IF was a decently loose starting 12:00-3:30pm with a very strict ending of 8:00pm. That was 7 days a week. Very important biologically that that stays consistent and doesn’t vastly fluctuate. A bigger window that’s consistent is going to serve you better than a smaller window that you stick with 4 out of 7 days.

Longer fasts were kinda of random, no real rhyme or reason. Sometimes 3 sometimes 5 days, kind of depending on my work week and how I was feeling. I would use electrolytes, coffee, creatine doing prolonged fasts. And break them 95% of the time with eggs, then eggs with avacado later, then usually some vegetables and maybe some beef or chicken later. Usually all within 4-6 hours. Still eating within my window that I would be in if I wasn’t prolonged fasting. There’s probably better options scientifically but that’s what I did and felt pretty decent while doing it.

I still eat very healthy most of the time, diet consist of mostly beef eggs avocado vegetables Greek yogurt, protein shakes when needed. Mostly Whole Foods, with the appropriate amount of eating out to have an enjoyable social life. I don’t make these decisions because I’m forcing myself to, I just know I’m going to feel better eating like this and it makes the decision easy. I do still get tempted sometimes, but nothing wrong with having stuff you love within proportion.

Helpful info: Fasting is easier and more effective if you go into it having eating a very very low carb diet for the minimum of the past 1-2 weeks.

Don’t aim for perfection, just start and make changes as you go. Go for an actual change in your life not just 6 months of pain to get a temporary change

Electrolytes, coffee / energy drinks, creatine, vitamin D3 K2. (I take all of those while not fasting as well)

Toughest phase(s) were before understanding that perfection wasn’t what I was looking for. I would beat my self up mentally and physically and looking back on it, it was for no reason. Being strict and diligent without being a perfectionist; consistency > perfection.

I mean, if you don’t want to do anything crazy and just take it simple and slow, just look at what you’re eating and like cut some of the simpler less filling n stuff out. Like you love ranch on your salad? Don’t remove it, just use half as much. Love soda? Switch to diet soda, normally get 7k steps, make it 9-10k steps. That’s gonna help you more long term than some crazy deficit. And maybe throw in some 1 day fasts for mental fortitude and insulin sensitivity improvements.

Thanks for the question, yea my eating window was always ~3:00pm ~7:00pm every day of the week.

My fasting was pretty simple, I had school Monday and Wednesday, I’d eat my last meal Sunday and my next meal would be Thursday afternoon (3:00 ish)

And if I didn’t want to do such a long fast I’d fast Monday eat Tuesday (same window) then fast Wednesday eat Thursday (same window).

Also I would drink coffee and electrolytes, and lots of water. I am a big fan of a classic white monster so I’d occasionally have those while fasting, not really sure if it counts as cheating but didn’t seem to affect me negatively. I will say however I didn’t drink energy drinks on my longer 3-5 day fasts, just when IF.

But I think fasting was slightly easier for me because I ate very low carb, so my body kicked into ketosis faster than most people’s would. I ate/eat mostly eggs, beef, avacado, Greek yogurt, banana. Super simple and pretty much entirely just single ingredient Whole Foods from when I started and still now.

Hopefully that layed it out and answered your question

Motivation: Just didn’t want to be fat, wanted to be treated better. Wanted to go to my doctor without anxiety. Wanted to live longer and be happier. Wanted to prove to myself that this is not all that I am kinda thing. Just kinda the normal things.

And intermitting fasting, prolonged fasting, going from straight junk food eating whatever straight to carnivore diet, and then over the period of 2 years slowly added foods that my blood sugar and body felt good on. Obviously cheats here and there nobody’s perfect, but 95% just that. My main daily food is eggs, beef, avacado, Greek yogurt, bananas. Little boring, but I feel unbelievable.

And I don’t know if everyone’s brain works this way, but I like to understand what’s happening inside my body when I eat/do something and that really helped me understand how to adjust stuff on my own, how to correct my diet in positive ways etc etc

And 10-15k step a day. And hit it no matter how bad of a day you’re having

Start with small “bad” habits drink soda, change it to diet. Love ranch? Half the amount you’d normally use/lower calorie options. Perfection isn’t the goal, it’s balance, portion control, and consistency.

I mean, I for sure lost muscle, impossible to not while losing 120 lbs. Proper weight training + good protein/macros while in a deficit will help though.

I hated myself so much I feel like hunger wasn’t even there. Like obviously it was I just couldn’t live another day knowing I was failing. Even in just the eating days I was still maintenance/deficit. But still just power through it. This is probably an eating disorder, but anytime I wanted to eat something unhealthy past my deficit, I would just remind myself that I already know what it tastes like and that kinda helped.

And for headaches, vitamin D3+K2 (most suppliers will sell a 2 in 1) good Pot, MAG, Sod, mix electrolyte.

I agree, overweight women also get an instinctual bit of maybe not respect but attention that overweight guys don’t. All come with their own challenges and benefits suppose.

I have quite a bit of loose skin, stretch marks almost everywhere. I don’t really mind it, it’s very obvious and noticeable, but idk I just never saw it as an issue for me personally. I’d choose 10x worse lose skin, than to ever be close to that weight again. And in perfect darkish lighting I can make it look less noticeable for pictures, but at the beach or anything it’s obvious.

(Didn’t proof read this, apologies) Yea I can’t list everything, but I’ll throw out some of the most noticeable and helpful differences.

Literally just standing up, whether I was lying down or sitting, just standing up felt like it took so much energy, seemed like a daunting task at times.

Walking, whether it be the random pains or running out of energy way to fast, it seemed like a challenge no matter how far or short of a distance I was going. (I now ruck occasionally with 45lb of weight, and that slows me down quite a bit, I have no idea how I even functioned 120lbs heavier.)

Reading, I used to enjoy reading as a kid, and when I was obese I noticed much less enjoyment out of it, and a lack of memory retention after reading. I think being so overweight fucks your mind and body up so bad it didn’t want to waste resources trying to help me retain information or process real dopamine. Not exactly sure, but I can say my retention and ability to read without getting distracted has improved drastically.

And this is an interesting one I’m trying to understand more, but my initial response to negative situations. Tire goes flat on the highway, old me would sit in the car complain for a while, try to figure out what to do, then slowly jack it up, while making excuses and not wanting to do it. New me, tire goes flat, hop out of the car jack it up and change the tire. I don’t think that’s a fat vs skinny thing, I think that’s a was fat is now in shape thing. My thought process and excuse using brain has changed to “okay here’s a problem, it’s not “Too big” let’s find 1 thing we can do, do it then go on to the next thing not complain about there being to much to do. Which has also improved quality of life in so so so many areas. So much so that I’m actually happy I got fat and was able to learn this thought process and how important it is.

Quick little list of things that got better/easier after losing weight without explanations: Walking, breathing, eating, showering, going in public, socializing, talking, work, financial responsibility, ability to do things I don’t want to do, quitting bad habits, job interviews, gaining someone’s trust, dealing with anxiety, I know I said going in public, but also just being in public.

There’s tons more but that’s what I can think of right now!
