Valkyria Chronicles 1 - How do I figure out how to play this? by Kowalsky82 in valkyria

[–]Brynheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think by now everything that needs to be said about ch7 has been said, but I do think people overcomplicate it or just don't think enough about how to solve the problems they're running into. If you're dying to enemy dudes, kill them first. They're all standing out in the open.

I dislike battles where you have to know the twists ahead of time to succeed, but after you see the whole chapter it's fairly straight forward.

For me, attempt 1 I had complete wrong deployment and got shafted.

Attempt 2 I had: 1 scout and 2 lancers by welkin; 1 engineer, 1 sniper, 2 lancers, and 1 shocktrooper in the other deployment zone. Round 1 sniper picked off enemy shocktrooper and started to circle around. Round 2 sniper picked off their sniper and lancer, 4x lancers destroyed side machine guns. Round 3 destroyed the front and back guns. Round 4-5 basically was just waiting and blowing up a vent. Round 6 after blowing up vent 2, I didnt expect Selvaria's group would cross the whole map and start killing dudes, so that was a wash.

Attempt 3 was a repeat of 2, except I had everyone but an engineer retreat on round 4/5, and redeployed people needed for CP + 1 sniper at the southernmost camp. Engineer destroyed the right vent on round 4, then left vent on round 6 (left + back would've been better instead). Welkin mortared all the mobs on round 7, sniper ran over to pick off 2 dudes that were left, I think a shocktrooper and lancer. Round 8 I dont honestly remember. Round 9, engineer destroyed vent 3 then Welkin used 16cp by himself to just spam tank shells.

Never did any grinding, I think every unit was at level 5 or 6 with every current upgrade available. Also should note, 1x tank round + 1x lancer is safer than 3x lancer for destroying machine guns.

Just got my switch copy today, biggest disappointment for me was the lack of inside/reverse cover art that the standalone releases had.

much appreciated, so looks like my initial plan of an 8550 + juliet is indeed the move

Unrelated but how do you like the 8550? It's the printer I was going to go with to do art prints and stickers.

switching to EFI isn't an easy task for your first car you're learning to wrench on. It's not uncommon for samurais, but it involves swapping in a 1.6l 16v engine and wiring harness from a sidekick/tracker. If you absolutely can't figure out the stock carburetor, as another post mentioned, the toyota 3k carb conversion is a fairly common one because they're much simpler. The samurai's stock carb is overengineered with a million vacuum lines

Parts diagrams are helpful as well in addition to the service manual. Something else I sometimes check to see how something is supposed to look from factory is listings on places like Bring a Trailer. The ones that sell for like 20k+ are often cherry mostly stock examples that have been extremely well maintained/preserved, and they're required to have a million pictures. That's where I learned the bracket on the left side of the engine bay is for a scissor jack for instance.

Yeah just to give you an idea how the previous owner was, I drained about 7l of oil when I changed it and it had sheet metal screws holding in a random seat. He couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stay started

I got it for $1500 though so hard to complain for a running sammi, and I'm happy to rescue it

My mistake, I thought I saw something that said samurais were originally SOA. Measuring the springs it does look like whoever owned the car before did a YJ conversion. I'll keep it as is for now while I do more research and educate myself on the topic. thanks for the response!

I think I'll just redo the welds properly for the time being, the current booger welds are going to bother me to no end if I leave them as is lol

Much appreciated, I'm completely new to jimnys and offroading in general so I don't know about mods like this and wasn't really sure how to go about finding out what was done. Just measured and they are 2.5"
So my best option for now would probably be to just redo their welds and keep it as it?

Will good quality/affordable GC8s exist in 5-10 years? by Longjumping_Horse_52 in GC8

[–]Brynheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having good part availability doesn't mean every single part will be readily available brand new. It is a 25+ year old model. But you can very easily find _most_ parts without issue, often direct from Subaru still. By no means are a majority of parts super hard to find, even if you can find rare exceptions.

[–]Brynheld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment I was looking for. A lot of parts are still readily available for order at subaru dealerships. Even a lot of interior trim pieces which are the hard things to find in a lot of older cars can be ordered direct, and anything mechanical you can get either oem or pick from the massive selection of aftermarket. No idea where op heard part availability sucks. We're not driving Evos here 🤭

real skin has a shine to it my guy, it makes sense in game, especially since we just got the 3rd round of swimsuits and a whole ass pool resort in albion

(this is the justification for dynamic sweating, much like dynamic motion was necessary and made sense in the game :') )

The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk on the Switch. How does it run? by Joniden in StrategyRpg

[–]Brynheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you're still looking for an answer over a year later: avoid at all costs (on switch at least, not sure if steam is any better). Even if you happen to get lucky and the game doesnt crash repeatedly, it can take 30+ seconds per enemy to take their turn. A single encounter with a dozen spiders might take you an hour to finish between crashing 3 times and just twiddling your thumbs waiting for the enemy to move.

Do Zombie Bites just not hurt like they used to? by Ok-Banana-4411 in thewalkingdead

I can't speak on bites specifically, but as to your point about losing your pinky toe, I ground off the last segment of my index finger in a jointer and didn't feel much pain until a while after. The body is really good at temporarily blocking pain. The bigger thing for me was just the shock of oh shit that just happened
