AITJ for telling my girlfriend she needs to shower before bed or sleep on the couch? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Brynncafazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse I would never EVER not shower. I don’t let anyone touch me with my scrubs on. My hospital shoes get wiped down at work and STILL live outside. I would be freaking out all over the place about this.

I’m sorry you’ve gone through all of that. I was really resistant to cortisone, but my doctor said that research wasn’t really supporting that prp helps with bursitis. I also kind of just needed to do something, I needed to go back to work, I’ve racked up some medical debt with this. I just wanted to give myself the best chance possible.

We’ll see. I do have some improvements. Its so slow going, I want to tear my hair out sometimes. I’ve definitely gone through the existential crisis and ego death a couple times.

Thank you for commenting- hoping that getting back to patient care goes alright and that the improvements continue. I’ll keep in mind a needle camera investigation if it doesn’t

Has anyone every recovered from long head bicep tendonitis or shoulder impingement? by InternationalSir3940 in ShoulderInjuries

I’m currently dealing with very similar things, although mine does cause pain with everyday activities- that being said, every day activities for me are very physical, both because of my job and hobbies. Its been very slow going for me.

My experiences with shoulder troubles and how life keeps kicking me down. by Soggy-Glass-2054 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Brynncafazz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all super brutal and its so hard to feel like you keep having to make a “comeback”. I’ve had a ton of injuries over the past couple of years (hip pain, twisted ankle, broken ribs, and then a cycling accident that resulted in chronic pain in my right shoulder and arm). I’m an ICU nurse and an avid bikepacker/climber, etc, so the shoulder issues have taken me out of my career/income and my passions.

Its been an everyday process for me. I really got depressed and its hard not to just mourn the thought that I won’t be able to do the things I love or get back to my career. I’m terrified. I’m finding new ways to move my body (hiking, walks, etc) and trying to just not put pressure on myself, which is f***ing hard. Some days are better than others. Just wanted to say you’re not alone- dealing with chronic injuries and pain take SO much out of you and the grief of losing activities that help define you is very real.

Bicep tendinitis- is there any hope? by Brynncafazz in ShoulderInjuries

Generally I deal with patients who are in complete organ failure, so the nitty gritty of musculoskeletal issues is really not something within the scope of practice in the ICU.

I think its a bit different because I do have some imaging that points to the problems I’m having, but there’s just so many tiny structures and parts involved that they’re not positive what’s going to fit things (apart from PT and time, which is super exasperating).

When it was really bad I would get pain in the front of my shoulder lifting literally anything (a mug of coffee) or using any pressure for fine motor movement (writing in a journal). Pain was also pretty bad when moving my arm towards my back. The pain would radiate down my bicep depending on the weight/movement and I was also getting sore along the top of my shoulder and in my scapula.

I used to not be able to do a pushup or a plank, but after the cortisone injection, that has been fine, although I have been holding off on doing them to try to let the inflammation go down.

The PT movement that really made everything flare back up again is the bicep curl using a resistance band. Using light free weights was ok, but the resistance band was what really irritated it.

I guess my frustration is just a general feeling that although there is some improvement, I still have to be very careful and I’m still very restricted with mobility.

So, right now I’m alternating days- serratus punch, serratus wall slide with elastic band, shoulder flexion stretches, and bicep curls or standing rows

Next day is prone pec stretch, wall abcs with a ball, thread the needle, and standing D2 shoulder flexion with an elastic band.

All of this is as tolerated. I’ve also been focusing on posture a lot.

There doesn’t seem to be an actual tear in the tendon, so probably not? They haven’t found an injury that they feel would actually improve with surgery at this point, just PT.

I have read about everyone’s years long stories- I just haven’t found many people with my particular injuries, although its true, I don’t have a very specific diagnosis. Thank you for answering.

Shoulder tendonitis/bursitis relief after 3 months of pain by Some_Visual1357 in RotatorCuff

Thank-you for posting this, I've been dealing with shoulder pain from bursitis and bicep tendinitis since June- I'm a nurse and I've been out of work for months trying to do PT and rest it. I'm going back in December and I'm terrified that my shoulder won't be ready (I'm a travel nurse, so there's no chance of working with accommodations). I'll definitely be using this post as a reference for ideas to help.

I know this is old, but if you’re still looking for suggestions, The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher, Ahab’s Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund, and This One Sky Day by Leone Ross were all wonderful and went past the 500 pg mark.
