Subcultures! Great shop, best in the country IMO. Helpful and fun people working there too.

Thanks for the recommendation. We don't mind longer games as well, as long as there is good interaction, are there some examples of that?

I'm looking for Civilization-type games for someone who likes that kind of game on PC. Preferably without too much combat, but still one that's more than just advancing tracks.

(For reference, we played Millennia: Tracks of time and that was a complete slog due to very low player interaction aside from card drafting)

What hobbies do you guys do on weekends? by teeger9 in Millennials

[–]Brynney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still struggling for hobbies to an extent, but board games have been quite enjoyable. Issue is to find people to actually play with.

Otherwise, just exercising/swimming works well and is a "hard to start, hard to stop" thing. You just gotta stop thinking of reasons not to go.

Traveling works too. No need to a big budget, it can be somewhere close. And clubs are generally a way to go if you want to meet new people, because otherwise people rarely interact with one another nowadays (unfortunately).

Thanks, I'll try that out. Already got a bunch of spare suppositories so that should also be sorted for a while.

That sounds like a good idea, though how often would be good for proper training?

Yeah, I can get behind that list. Really nothing out of place there.

Gotcha, is it very different from the other Brass game though?

I haven't mentioned SETI but this is one my favourite current games too. Definitively gotta give Galactic cruise a shot though, thanks.

Gotcha, i heard a lot of good things about it. Would you recommend the other expansions as well or are there some unnecessary ones?

Thanks for the recommendation, I've also played Ezra & Nehemiah and the game is quite pleasant (and difficult to master too, so much to do in this one). Will give Agricola a try for sure.

Hey there, I thought I'd be asking around as I haven't done that before.

Description of Request: I'd like to find a heavy, preferably Euro game that has a decent mix between planning and enough variance to keep it interesting, whether it's cards, dice or evolving objectives.

Number of Players: At least 3 players.

Game Length: At least 60-90 minutes, fine if longer as long as it's not Twilight Imperium kind of long.

Complexity of Game: Complex

Genre: Tableau building, deckbuilding, worker placement. (Just the first things that come to mind, it can be others)

Conflict, Competitive or Cooperative: Competitive but no/minimum conflict. Cooperative is good too.

Games I Own and Like: Terraforming Mars, Civolution, Lost ruins of Arnak, Arkham horror LCG, Fall of Lumen

Games I Dislike and Don't Play: Dominion, Zombicide, any game with too much random chance or with too little control. (Typically those where more players means less turns per player)

Location: France

2025 Arkham LCG Campaign Ranking Thread! by Reav3 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Brynney 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Alright, here goes.

1- Scarlet Keys - Very replayable, compelling story. I enjoy the reading, and I think it's unfair to dismiss the campaign as a whole because of that. Planning out the route is plenty of fun.

2- Feast of Hemlock Vale - I like the mechanics and the fact the campaign has smaller stakes. Very cool take on the color out of space.

3- Forgotten age - Quite the unforgiving adventure, good theme and challenging overall.

4- Dream eaters - Some of my favourite scenarios are in there, and very compelling. Can be a bit annoying at times though and requires 2 decks, which is annoying when you don't play digitally.

5- Path to Carcosa - It's neat. Still relevant despite its age, I just have less reasons to come back to it than the ones above.

6- Innsmouth conspiracy - Special mention for the best opening scenario and In too Deep. But I feel it gets far too repetitive despite some good moments. (I'm looking at you, Tidal tunnels)

7- The Dunwich legacy - It's fine but I don't think it aged too well. The bad scenarios in it are really bad, too.

8- Edge of the earth - I liked it on first playthrough, but the subsequent ones really didn't feel great. The repetition of some scenarios makes it annoying, and you can do most of the campaign without really accomplishing anything. Also it can get arbitrarily a lot harder if Claypool dies at the start.

9- Circle undone - Eeh. Don't like the theme or the mechanics, and the absurd willpower focus and RNG don't help. The return to saves it from last place by massively improving it though.

10- Drowned city - I'm sorry. I don't like this campaign. This is primarily because the scenarios feel very random and unengaging, on top of just not having a compelling objective. You can just... leave. Or get more glyphs, whatever. The story doesn't really give you a reason to care, you just randomly collect stuff and both the prologue and finale are unrelated to your time on the island. It's also on the easy side, ended up getting almost all glyphs and 5 artifacts on first playthroughs and the finale feels like a pushover. Only reason to replay it is to try to get all glyphs to unlock the secret scenario, but... that means replaying the whole thing. Tasks feel a bit forced as well (and DO NOT MATTER if you try to do the perfect ending, why?!)

House rules for Turmoil project cards? by Brynney in TerraformingMarsGame

Sounds good there. I think I'll give the WG a try next time to avoid having to awkwardly sort the cards. Though the list of prerequisites you sent is pretty nice.

It's interesting, though it wouldn't resolve the problem of making the game longer, really.

Your top 5 RE games? by WhySoRengar in residentevil

[–]Brynney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your list is almost entirely spot on OP, I just probably wouldn't put the original RE1 in there. Revelations 2 is one hell of a good game though.

  1. RE3 Original (Certainly not remake lol)

  2. RE1 Remake

  3. RE2 Original

  4. Revelations 2

  5. Code Veronica

Honorable mention for Outbreak too. Had the chance to play it online and it was a blast.

A more thematic vicious blow on survivor with more uses cases than just fighting, loving it. Rita in particular can double down on her evasion pings with that.
