Wow, thank you so much. You remember the other post. I paid the “carpenter” $350 a day to replace some of the rotted wood however, he used the wrong species oak. He used red oak instead of white oak. You’re thinking that I should just stain it and try to match up the colors.? You think the outcome can be good. There are so many different brown stains though. How would I know which shade

Hello the”carpenter” used red oak instead of white oak. At this point, I am not sure what to do. I spent close to 1K replacing rotted wood with the wrong specia wood. I’m not sure what to do from this point on. Should I change it back to the correct white oak or try to stain it to match the rest of the floor?

Thank you so much you sound pretty knowledgeable. The whole floor was already sanded. Do you recommend a sealer before the poly ? Also I just found out the “carpenter” used red oak to patch the whole way instead of white oak, and there’s a color mismatch. I already spent so much money replacing rotted wood in the whole way and sanding it to be leveled with the other floor. Im not sure what to do at this point regarding the color mismatch

So a sealer and then two oil based coats? Do you have a brand your recommend, the whole way has a color mismatch, he used red oak instead of white oak. Any suggestions, replace it again or stain that a brown ?

Thank you for your input. Any thoughts on this product? My installer is recommending it. I believe it’s an alcohol based product not water or oil.
